Topic: So, I got a Macbook Pro today...

Posted under Off Topic

Guess what? I hate Apple! Won't go into why (short version, treating their users like chumps, horrible business policy, shameless abuse of patenting, etc. etc.) but suffice to say, I'm at odds with my sudden need to acquire one of their (admittedly well designed) machines.
I need it for coding (believe it or not Macbooks are a frequent gold standard in web development) and so it was somewhat unavoidable I ended up with one!

ANYWAY, one of the saving graces of Apple products is that because they're so widely used and uniform, there's a lot of third party customization going on out there for the brushed metal machines.
Do you guys have any suggestions for decals or other mods that perhaps subvert the glowing logo on the back so that I can express to the world I'm an Apple user out of necessity, not want?

I just think you're going to have to deal with the fact that you purchased an Apple product.

I have. I'm asking for help on how best to waste more money trying to make it look cool. Because I'm vain and materialistic.

Get a hammer, or, since you want to spend the most, a sledgehammer and... you get the idea... :v

Yes, this. :P

So, you overpaid for a laptop.
I have pity.

Do you simply want to obscure the fact that it's an apple, or do you want something that will show the apple but in a negative way?

Gotta say, I though I'd find more Mac fans here. Good show

Sadly, the development tools are both well supported and easy to use. Windows is a joke when it comes to having a working terminal. Linux is better but requires a *lot* of specialist knowledge to get just about anything going.

More the latter. Like I said, they're actually nicely designed machines. The light on the back would be 1000% cooler if it was just a large circle for people to apply whatever to it. So given that I just hate branding and it's a not-terrible gimmick, I've been trying to find something that can make creative use of it.

I saw a good one not too long ago - a pirate ship that made the apple light into a skull and crossbones. something along those lines.
I've looked myself of course, but I was curious if there was a good repository of good 'uns I was unaware of.

In all honesty, Macs aren't fucking Satan, OP.
Sure a Macbook Pro can't compete with a high end gaming laptop, but it's pretty light, a nice sized screen, and a pretty sleek design. It also tends to last a tiny bit longer, but in that retrospect, you can't really do self repairs on an apple like you can a pc, but the majority of the public cannot either...
This is personal preference, but I think the magnetic charger port is pretty cool.
If you're using it for coding, the laptop should suit your needs just fine honestly...

Almost every brand of laptop has their label on the back...

To clarify; the machines are decent. The software is well designed, but *super* locked down and propitiatory. My biggest beef is with Apple, not their hardware.

However, that ghost is just too cute. :3c thx <3

Wow, they're pretty neat! But does it have to be black?

To cover the glow, yes.
There are colored decals too, but it glows through them.

I suppose you could do a thick metallic type of sticker too, but most of the ones I saw were black.

I recommend xfinder for making the finder tool not-useless.
To install programs from the web, it's system preferences > security & privacy

Well it's the contrast with metallic grey.

But not all have a light in it, also it's one of the biggest logos on laptops

You pay the most you may as well get the biggest logo, just as the more expensive Ferrari get more red.

Also, it entirely depends on what you plan to program, creating windows things is easier on a windows machine, creating apple things is easier on apple.
And once you dump in enough money you can run the emulator for the other just fine on it anyway which makes this almost only an aesthetic question.

Oh yes, I'm amazed how much people is willing to spend on things with a logo, such as a extremely expensive notebook that has a BIG ferrari logo.
And yes, with the rigth hardware you can run almost any emulator perfectly, makes developing easier.
