Topic: [Feature/Implemented] New special tag, "fav:me" --- a shortcut for your own favorites

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.

The me modifier usable in search strings like voteup:me is very handy. Currently, fav:me does not work and I'd love to see it do so.

Consider making a new shortcut tag, fav:me, which returns the logged-in user's favorites.

Why would it be useful?

Easier typing for detailed searches and for users with long or complicated names.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?

Search bar

What if there's a user named "me"? The reason it works for votedup: is because anything you enter after it gives the same results.

Now see, I was told that me was a modifier and that's the reason it worked with voteup. I tested voteup:bluedingo and, just like you said, it returned posts 'I' had voted up.

Well fav:me could still be a handy shortcut. And while it's not unreasonable to reserve the username "me" as a system keyword, Admin will decide if it's worth and act accordingly.

Hence why I said elsewhere that my favourites are private.

Unfortuately, there actually is a user named 'Me' which hasn't been active for a long time but exists nonetheless, so the name can't be reserved without taking it from that account.

If you badly need a shortcut, consider making a browser bookmark and/or keeping your profile open in another tab for now, so a link is readily available.

PS: I didn't check last time. This time, 793 pages of names containing "me" showed up. It was on page 363]

I use voted:me because it is valid, short, and easy to remember.

I considered making your exact suggestion before, but I looked it up and found the user. Since the @me username is in "use", it won't work unless we screw over this person's account, even if it hasn't been used for years.

Nobody seems to be using a single pound sign. Maybe we could use that instead.

I just think of users like the one named "my name is over 20 characters long" (truncated xD) and how much easier it would be for them to search for their own favorites along with other tags.

It would be a fun convenience. Nothing more. =)

Actually all my browsers have memorised my common searches (you should see my autosuggestions on my phone, or maybe you shouldn't), so it's not much of a problem for me. Still, could be neat.

If you don't want to bookmark searches or store them in browser history for privacy reasons, you can copy and paste them onto your user profile instead.

We might be able to reserve that name. The person who made that account hasn't used it in over 8 years. We can just rename it to Me_ or _Me or something if needed.
It should be easy to implement.

After making the change, you could also offer a free complimentary renaming to the account holder. Just send the account a message with the news (contact us if you're interested, etc.) and leave it sit. That takes care of the account holder, too. Win-win. ^_^

As far as I'm aware, the only thing one has to pay for on e621 is advertisement. Everything else is free.

-- Okay, so a complimentary name change.

This user named Me has a very small activity profile: 4 favorites, 3 comments, no other activity, and last logged in back in 2010. Shifting their name is very likely not to cause an intrusion.

The process we've identified:

  • Change name of user "Me" to a placeholder
    • Offer account holder a name change via account message
  • Code for fav:me
  • ... Success!

Is there anything else this feature is missing? Anything in the way, or any way we can make it better?

I may or may not have added in this change.

with fav:me being implemented, it might also be proficient to include user:me to the algorithm
