Topic: Delete the pawjob -> handjob alias

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Link to the pawjob -> handjob alias

For the simple reason that many people use "pawjob" to mean footjob. Meaning the current alias results in frequent unintended mistagging.
Examples: post #1670897, post #1672775, post #1691123

Proposed next step after removing the alias:
Alias pawjob to pawjob_(disambiguation), with the wiki explaining that we have the handjob and footjob tags. As a last resort, we can alias to invalid_tag instead.

Updated by Furrin Gok

Bumping due to ongoing mistagging that is caused by this alias. In fact, it's happened at least twice (post #1757814, post #1759640) since my OP post.

In my opinion the alias needs to be deleted ASAP.

We can decide what to do with pawjob afterwards, since objectively invalid tagging (caused by this alias) seems more serious an issue than having a few handjob posts not being tagged handjob right away.

That would be a short-term solution - and an ineffective one: the only way to find all mistags would be to manually comb through a search for "handjob", which is a lot of work (~23k existing, ~100 new posts/week) that's not worth it since the alias itself is bad.*

What would y'all suggest doing with the pawjob tag, then? (I'm assuming you're not saying the alias should stay)

*Searching the most recent page of "pawjob" art on Fur Affinity gave me about 39 footjobs to 2 handjobs. So very bad.

e621 isn't FA, and FA has zero tag system. As Gok said, tell the person who is tagging it wrong, and if they don't change report them for tag abuse.

its really not user's fault if pictures get tagged incorrectly because a more vague term is aliased to specific term. this is as if canine was aliased to dog and then reporting users for tagging canine on wolves and such. this alias is bad and should be a disambiguation instead.

Not quite, more like aliasing carrot to carrot_(artist), despite the vegetable being a more likely intention, which is still wrong, so +1 for changing yo disambiguation.

But aliases are meant to help users, which this one doesn't. Otherwise we might as well change every alias to invalid tag and ban everyone who doesn't know all e6 tags top to bottom.

Actually, it is their fault. Read through the steps: We're letting them know that they've made a mistake, giving them a chance to correct it (Paws=Hands here, make sure you tag it as footjob instead), and then only punishing them if they still don't fix it.

You too, read the steps in order. This isn't a non-helpful alias, it was made this way because most of the time people used Paw to refer to hands, not feet; and we don't punish people for one measley mistake. If mess up, you can still fix it.

Thanks all for the input so far, and thanks @Ruikuli and @MyNameIsOver20charac for understanding the situation; disambiguating pawjob to pawjob_(disambiguation) seems like a decent alternative to invalidating.

As I already said, and have not been given evidence to the contrary, the alias is not helpful, but harmful. "Pawjob" is used as a synonym for "footjob" ~95% of the time (source: FA), and even in the original alias thread 5 years ago, there was a consensus for invalidating pawjob. I have no idea why we went forward with the →handjob alias anyway.

P.S. Just as a reminder, this is not an overly minor issue. Even if the alias should stay (and it shouldn't), ~10 users a month would have to be messaged/reported. Here's a list of just the mistags I caught (there's likely more) from the last 10 days : [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

hmm, e6 pawjobs do seem to be almost exclusively handjobs, so I do see your point furrin. Not sure what would be best then, I'll leave this to the tag veterans.

How did you come to that conclusion? Unfortunately, we (not admins) can't directly tell if someone tags pawjob or not.

If you searched "pawjob" on e621 search, you're literally just searching "handjob" :P

Tag history. Although after thinking on it, a realiasing to disambiguate it may be the most helpful course of action.
