Topic: Interesting theories about fictional characters

Posted under Off Topic

The title says it all. What theories do you have about fictional characters? My theory has to do with Harvey Dent/Two-Face. I think the reason Two-Face hates Batman so much is because Dent has always secretly resented the Dark Knight. His transformation finally unleashed Dent's true hatred for Batman and that's why he's hellbent on destroying him.

This phenomenon is known as a head-canon or fan-canon! Now you didn't give any restrictions on what characters or theories, so that's a pretty large scope...

I'm pretty sure that Sam & Max (of Sam & Max comic, TV show and games) are a couple. It's a frequent gag, to the point now where Sam has fantasized on proposing to Max. Steve Purcell himself has given neutral or I-don't-know answers whenever asked if it was -just- a gag.

What else... Oh yeah, I'm not convinced Nintendo's Mario is a good guy. Consider Bowser. Bowser is also known as the King Koopa. See that? King. He is a legal monarch. And what's more, he has an astonishingly high approval rating in his kingdom! Despite his constant war efforts there seems no shortage of soldiers and fanatics in his favour. If you ever played the RPGs, they can't talk enough about how great he is!
Not only that, but he's a ruler involved with his subjects. He's not one to stay isolated in some ivory tower, oh no. He's frequently seen on the front lines, even helping other koopas with their day to day tasks. He is a people's leader!
Now Mario is not an army. He's one guy. Why is it always one guy? Is there just no support in the Toadstool kingdom to go to war with the Koopas? Or does princess Peach simply not inform her subjects of the incoming invasion? Instead, the assault is lead by a single man who crawls through sewers to attack the head of the chain. Mario is no less than a political assassin.

On the subject of Mario, whatever happened to the Seven Kings? Allow me to explain: In Super Mario Bros. 3 it was established that the Mushroom Kingdom was an Oligarchy divided into 7 lands, each with their own king. Each king had a magic scepter that gave them control over their own respective lands. Princess Peach was merely a figurehead, the daughter of the King of the Grasslands (or so it was implied). The Koopalings all stole the scepeters, transformed the kings, and were to bring the scepters back to Bowser so that he could reign supreme over the entire Mushroom Kingdom with Princess Peach as his bride. His plan fails only because you as Mario/Luigi, stop him.

In the newer games featuring the Koopalings we see them use the scepters, but we never see the Seven Kings again and Princess Peach is portrayed as the ultimate monarch. Not cool Nintendo. You can't just sweep an entire system of government and an important article of culture under the rug like that and expect us to forget about it. Retcons suck. :/

(However, if Mario 3 was indeed all a stage play, the Seven Kings may have never even existed...)

While we're at it, I (like many other people) don't buy that Peach is getting 'kidnapped' all the time either. The popular theory is that her and Bowser have something going on, but playing into my Mario: Political assassin theory, it could be that Peach is staging it all as a provocation for war.

Also, is that the one with like the character select on the theatre? Yeah, that whole game never happened. If you get to the end, you discover IT WAS ALL A DREAM.

No,that was "Super Mario Bros. 2" (Doki Doki Panic with a Mario coat of paint). Super Mario Bros 3 is the one where Mario became a furry with the Tanooki and Frog suits.

How about the theory that all the characters in Edd Ed and Eddy are in purgatory...?

Here goes...
Reaper Squad - Possibly all skilled pilots shot down by the Reaper Squad Leader, J. To increase their effectiveness, they signed up to become UNACs and proceeded to destroy what they saw fit.

Examples of being UNACs:
95% of their dialog sounds like a UNAC's voice.
D's habit of attacking enemies head on without evasion.
M's recovery in mission 9 despite losing her left arm.
K ditching her sniper cannon once she reached 15000 AP.
N's evasion abilities and tone during mission 5.6.
J's god-mode activation in mission 10, radiating the entire map.
Their constant usage of uncommon terms and tactical knowledge.

Examples of not being particular:
D and his UNACs appearing to help you kill the out of control Sirius UNACs in mission 6.
K helping you kill five EGF UNACs in mission 3.

It's a kind-of-but-not-really-widespread fan theory. It's sort of on the line where I'm not sure whether to be surprised if someone has heard it, or if I should be surprised when someone hasn't heard it. Cracked listed it in an article once at least, so it's not completely unknown.

Either way, here you go. There's a few variations, but I think that's the "main" one.

Pfffft. Laaame. There's nothing on that that discludes the possibility that they're just kids on spring break. Being off-color never raised any suspicions in Doug or The Simpsons.

EDIT: While I'm at it, did anyone else hate Doug as much as I did? Whilst it was on it was pretty much kids who were exactly my age at the time. I felt like whoever made it had clearly never encountered a bully in their life.
"Oh noooo, Roger is going to read my diaryyyy" No he's not, you shit. He's going to burn it and kick you in the stomach, like he does every day.
My theory is that Doug was a schizophrenic, or was well on the road to becoming one. Introverted escapist, constantly talking to animals, detachment from reality.

You say that, but I bet if you did some digging, you'd find something.

Well, I know they kid about it in the Simpsons. And as I put in the edit, I hated Doug. I always assumed the reason they made people multi-colored was to make a statement about racial equality. Not that that works because the lead character is quite clearly caucasian.

Most likely. But you can't stop the headcanon train. It's like... a cannon. *ba dum tss*

As for your edit... I actually really liked Doug as a kid. It was usually one of the first shows to come on after the Nick Jr. block was over (back when Nick Jr. actually was a programming block and not a separate channel) so I watched it a lot more regularly than shows that came on later during dinnertime.

Granted I was born in '91, so when it was on the air I was far from the same age range, but looking back at a few episodes, it actually isn't that far off from my own experiences around that age (middle school in particular). Just without the occasional sexual overtones and lying about whether or not you've actually "done it" yet. And basically no friends because I was always moving from state to state.

Didn't like the Disney one though. Don't know why. Probably just "Too different. Different BAD" coming into effect.

My theory is that Doug was a schizophrenic, or was well on the road to becoming one. Introverted escapist, constantly talking to animals, detachment from reality.

Schizophrenic... or just a furry who hasn't found the fandom yet. Hell, aside from the talking to animals part, Doug almost fits 11-to-15-year-old me perfectly.

Speaking of looking back at the episodes though, I can't be the only one who still has a VHS player and stockpile of recorded tapes of their childhood shows, right? I mean I totally saw some blank tapes at Walmart not too long ago. Somebody has to be buying them still.

Here's an interesting theory about the Dark Knight himself. Batman and all of the villains he fights are all figments of Bruce Wayne's imagination. After the death of his parents, Bruce slowly went insane as the years progressed. He eventually ended up in Arkham, which is actually a normal asylum, where he created Batman and all of the villains he fights. Alfred died years ago. The Wayne Manor was destroyed in a fire. None of it is real. Bruce Wayne just sits in a room in Arkham, muttering about protecting Gotham.

I've heard that one, but I get annoyed at 'it was all a dream' or 'the main character is crazy'. Heck, it's such an established trope Buffy did a whole episode on it.

Really? I didn't know that was a well-known theory.

It can be applied to ANYTHING. For me what comes to mind is the idea that The Rugrats were made up by Angelica from the series, but in reality she is insane which was why her Cynthia doll was so messed up. The story is told by her best friend Suze who visits her in a mental hospital. I'm paraphrasing a little i think but you heard of this before correct?

There's also the theory that all the SpongeBob characters are the byproduct of all the nuclear weapon tests in Bikini Atoll in the '40s and '50s.

And the one where all of the main characters are embodiments of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Spongebob = Lust
Gary = Gluttony
Patrick = Sloth
Sandy = Pride
Squidward = Wrath
Mr. Krabs = Greed
Plankton = Envy

I have a feeling that isn't true. Could you back it up with something?
