I believe this was the main point of forum #266099.

Actually, looking at the list of approved tag aliases with 'paw', it seems as though paw-based tags are largely aliased to foot-based tags, with the notable exception of pawjob, as well as the tags that are aliased to handpaw.

I think those aliases were hastily approved. I found the original thread for those aliases and there wasn't a lot of discussion for it.

Maybe splitting the paw tags into a hand and foot analogue and turning the current ones a disambiguation?

Split the paw tags into front_paw and back_paw? Does that makes sense

Thinking better, these are aliases, and don't make much sense.

Better just turn everything into a disambiguation.
