Topic: "Does not meet minimum quality standards (Artistic)"

Posted under General

I'm not upset or anything, just confused. Okay, I am upset, but I understand the reasoning- for the most part. What I don't understand is my last three uploads being taken down because (Artistic). What does that mean? Are my designs shit? Do you think I stole them? Why were they deleted here, I don't understand. I know I'm not great, but I'm putting my heart into my art, and seeing it deleted every single time is such a massive blow to my ego, and yet, I understood in those past cases. These (Artistic) cases make no sense to me, and I'd like to know what I've done wrong here. Also, I couldn't find anything about this in the forums, though there is probably something there, please forgive me if my question is already clearly answered elsewhere.

Not meeting quality standards simply means that they don't meet the required standard of work necessary to be featured in the e621 archive. I can't see these deleted posts so it's difficult to make a judgement, but this could be due to incorrect anatomy, poor resolution etc... You'd have to contact the person who flagged your posts for deletion or the individual who actually removed it. In this case, the janitor "Slyroon." Ask them the same questions you've put up here.

The truth is that few people are going to care about how much effort you put into your work or how your "ego" feels about it. This is simply because they aren't you and they don't share your context. You'd be better off sticking to sites like DeviantArt or personal blogs if you want to showcase work that is apparently more on the amateur side.

It's also worth noting that if you don't like the notion of your work being ignored, then it might be worth considering whether it's worth showing it off until a time when your artistic abilities are more developed. As an artist, you should care far more about how creating art makes you feel, as appose to the approval of others.

Hi, janitor here. Can see your deleted submissions. Not meaning to be rude at all, but the works simply don't meet the minimum quality standards of the site. This website isn't an art site that allows any and all content on here, this is specifically an art archival website. Each submission has to meet certain standards to be able to stay here, which includes: relevance, if it's paysite content or not, if it's art theft, etc etc. A base minimum standard of quality is also one of these standards, and prevents spamming of decolored base art, traces, stick figure low quality sketches, etc.

I'd recommend you to keep drawing but maybe post your content to a website that supports all artwork regardless of quality, such as FA or deviantart, and then if you feel it might be accepted to THEN upload it here or perhaps get a second opinion from a mod in DMs or the discord to ask if you've improved enough to surpass the quality minimum.

Alright, thank you. I was up until this moment misinformed, then. My apologies.

The art is pretty dang cute, but it's rough.

Like, your facial expressions are great and portraying an expression, but you're not quite there in terms of... well, everything else.

The picture I"m looking at in particular has a lot of jagged outlines, instead of a single smooth-ish line.. I'm looking at the one of the rainbow snake laying on a red bed or whatever:

on the -> side of the yellow section, there's a really erratic, jagged looking bit. on the <- where the green metes yellow, there's a lump in the outline on the outside.

Her body has an erratic width too: Starting at her head and going towards her tail, the red section is narrow than thicker, orange is thicker than narrow. Yellow is mostly even, green is thick then thin, while blue is thick-thin-thick. I know drawing a snake shape is hard, but that's the sort of thing that adds a lot of polish to an image.

Likewise, the shading on and around her body is... rough. the shadows aren't smooth. They don't help suggest the shape of her body. they just look like they were scribbled on. Like, I really wonder if maybe you forgot to finish that part. c_c

The one with the taco is cute too! but it feels very beginner. and that's okaay! Every artist has to start *SOMEWHERE* and it takes a long time to get out of newbie land. :)

the taco one has a lot of stray pixels, though: there's some normal body coloring in the shaded areas --places that generally indicate that a paintbucket tool was used. (there's nothing wrong with using a paint bucket, but you gotta do some clean up after!) and you've got some line jaggies all over, especially on the tail.

All in all, this isn't awful. It's REALLY cute and you've got some great skill growing here.

Just, e621 wants higher quality work. :/ Don't let it discourage you! Keep goin! :)

That’s why I’m not posting anything here. Its rules are too strict. Not everyone has the same art style and the same quality as one would think. I know. I posted a video which is suppose to be a WIP. Just to show everyone how much I’ve gotten and would love their opinion on improvement. Then Mairo deleted it because it didn’t meet standards. After I told him it was a WIP, he said it was irrelevant. I decided to not waste my energy and post this on different sites. Hopefully I can improve enough to post one here in the future without it getting deleted.

Great work at necroing 4 years old thread, by replying to user who hasn't been around for 3 years and pinging me with it.

bro...did you really just Necromancer Class a thread back to the front page? Good Golly! Why?
You could have just made a new thread or take it up with the person you gripe with or somethin!

They did, but I said no, which is obviously just me being unreasonable bully who clearly don't know what they are doing and haven't done this for years.

This isn't meant to be any direct attack and obviously new users are unaware of things, but at the same time I do not have time to explain inner workings of the website every single time I delete something.
Even less so as I had my days off basically revoked last week from real life work as well.

the approval system is literally bull, i've seen ms paint drawings put on here yet not a single drawing of mine can get passed. I can literally name several artists with near-similar errors in their work that can post on here, I've seen actual scrobbles and doodles on this site that get approved. the trick is to gain somewhat of a following on some third party site and then get your stuff approved because starting from scratch on here is actually looked down on.

Getting started on a 3rd-party site... you're not wrong. In before thread locked. XD

I don't think it's just the drawing style or level of detail. I've seen posts approved that it seems it's because they've got other reasons for merit.

How old were those "MS Paint drawings"? There's some obscure rule where older stuff is exempted because the site had different standards.

Not old at all, you can go look for yourself. The sketch tag predominantly has the most "low quality" posts approved, but you can find them in all the tags. The standards are nonexistent and subjective to whatever moderator but you'll likely find more extreme/kinky content is held to higher standards than wholesome things.

There's going to be some degree of subjectivity to artistic merit standards no matter what you do. In many cases, it's often a case of trial and error to decide what's appropriate and what's not. Make sure you tag and rate appropriately, too.
