Topic: Site Access with VPNs

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I use Nord VPN to protect myself from my very very intrusive ISP, they're pricks. Also on the go with my phone because this is the world we live in. Nord VPN every time I turn it on, for the last month or so, I get a message as "This site cannot be reached." I have tried to bounce around to see if changing server worked and only got it to work seldomly through double VPN option. Funny that Tor works just fine but not Nord? Really E621 Really?

All parts of the website while using Nord VPN is affected.
Can't access the Site while using a VPN.
Site is unavailable or if it ever is available, is so for only a very short time before it isn't any longer.
Every time I turn on my VPN, this happens, I can replicate this issue repeatedly, fix your site or come with some other brower checker, especially if I have an account.
Other than the site blocked, can't think of any other errors.

If E621 is truly blocking Nord VPN, odd that Tor works fine, but I hate that browser. Come up with some other authorization method or something because the only reason I can think why someone would block a VPN is jerks that use it to harm websites.

Hopefully this fits the template and this issue will be resolved.

We don't have any reason to block VPNs. Given that you're getting "This site cannot be reached." That's a connection problem and not something that we're involved with at all. That's between NordVPN and Cloudflare, neither of which we have any control over for connection interference.

If you are blocked for any reason the site is extremely obvious about it and gives you a message about being blocked and how you can resolve that situation.

To clarify, all traffic to the site goes through Cloudflare, which means that we don't see the origin IP address as a connection source. It is sent along in the request as a header. So it limits our rejection methods to visible response pages.

Huh, well that is peculiar for sure. I didn't know that e621 used some sort of hosting service. Now I am curious and going to dig around for issues with cloudflair and Nord VPN to see who else may have issues as well. I wonder though if anyone else uses Nord VPN to browse this site.

In case you haven't had luck or others are looking into it.

NordVPN has a feature called CyberSec. For some reason, this is messing with e621.net as well as some other sites. Try turning it off and then reconnect to your server/vpn and try it again.

I would suggest that if that is the case to message NordVPN and ask them to make an exception for this site

This seems to be the ticket here. Thanks for the tip.
