Topic: wrong locked tags

Posted under General

Hello there.

I have found some posts with wrong "locked tags"

1. locked tags on this one: female -male -ambiguous_gender
post #1389406
In my opinion, it should be: male or ambigouous_gender -female.
I'd, maybe, go even further and change it to explict and male. Because this looks like a backsack to me.

2. locked tags on this one: female -male -girly
post #1700245
my suggestion for this one is: -female -male girly ambiguous_gender.

you can't say if it is a male or a female. it has long hair, wide hips, no breasts, no balls or penis. so ambiguous_gender fits very well.

3.locked tags on this one: -crossdressing -girly -male female female_focus flat_chested mtf_crossgender.

suggestion: girly ambiguous_gender.

You can see reggie on the left, in this picture. He is a Girly male. You can't see any sex organs neither penis/balls/bulge nor breasts/camel toe/vagina. this should be tagged with: ambiguous_gender and girly. instead of female.

I saw this on a couple of other posts in the past. But I didn't want to annoy the admins with it.

I know this is an important tool for the admins but if it is used wrong, it somehow is pretty annoying.

Questions I have:
Should I report something like that?
And if so, how do I report stuff like that?

Out of the 3 you provided, the only one I think you might be right on is the first, just to to the possibility that could be a ballsack.
https://e621.net/wiki/show/howto:tag_genders

Gender tag locks aren't in place to lock characters to their canonical gender, but to categorized characters into what they look like. The true identity of characters should be instead placed in character wikis and/or post descriptions.

On a secondary note, I'm going to explain a tag pairing.

Girly / Ambiguous_Gender can't be tagged together in an explanation of the same character. Girly describes a feminine male character, Where as Ambiguous_Gender describes a character that can not be placed into a category. Whether it's due to the character being to androgyn, or having to many conflicting traits to be categorized as one. So implying that a character tagged as ambiguous_gender should also be tagged as girly shows that you believe the character to look more female than male.

Getting in before the thread lock.

Can't say I fully agree on the lock for the first post, but the other two examples are TWYS working as intended.
With the absence of defining sexual features such as genitalia body types should be used to determine gender, and by typical human anatomical standards (which e621 purports to use for TWYS) men just don't have figures like that.

Girly is a male-only tag, and should not be used on solo ambiguously-gendered characters.

Here's some advice. If you disagree with some locked tags, it's better to say:

"Hey, I don't understand why [decision] was made, can you explain?"

Rather than:

"I know the rules better than the admins who have been here for years, I'm right they're wrong FIX IT!"

It is substantially less arrogant and rude.

Yeah maybe stop stating things are wrong because you subjectively disagree.

Especially on Whygena things. Whiny whiteknights are why he went DNP and it's a god damn shame :(

Those tag locks are valid.
99.9% of the time(the 0.1% being me messing up the syntax), tag locks are valid because only admins can lock tags, and I think admins know the rules better than users considering they have to enforce them.

So instead of coming into our house and telling us we are doing stuff wrong and how we should do things, perhaps read our tagging guidelines instead of pretending to know the rules?

What a ridiculous notion.

Why are we using typical human anatomical standards on a site that disallows anything (with exceptions) containing human only?

Since everyone's preferences are so varied on e621, ensuring that the characters' genders (or lack of, in some cases) in each post are tagged as accurately as possible, is an essential part of the basic tagging checklist.

Because the vast majority of vanilla-furry content is still human in structure with specific parts swapped out.

Not this shit again...

forever and always, it's why I started explaining that the gender tags here are for appearance and not canon :v

yeah maybe I reacted inappropriately on post 1700245
It just looked wrong to me, so I made a thread about it.

@hiekkapillu
thank you that was pretty helpful...

@Verperus
Thank you for explaining it objectively
