Topic: exhentai is gone

It's definitely not gone. Still around.

Along with its other constituents, ge and e.

I believe the owner said that we have about 12 hours to download all the shit we've been putting off downloading. The site is still up for now, but throws out frequent errors when accessing pages. The Netherlands apparently came out with a new law criminalizing loli. If only the site was hosted somewhere like Japan that doesn't immediately flip out and start banning stuff.

Oh, wait where was this?

Edit- Just looked it up and well fuck that sucks

Here's the forum. It just went down. What's being said on different sites is that Exhentai is going down immediately, and Ehentai is either going down tomorrow as well, or it'll be around for a few months longer since loli/shota isn't hosted there. Tenboro was basically tired of playing whack-a-mole with finding different places to host the site and has given up.

Yeah, but Japan also has censorship laws that would interfere. You need a country with laws that allow sexual depiction of drawn minors and doesn't require censorship of genitalia. I believe the US meets both criteria in certain states, but that's still a gamble. You'd almost have to host it in some 3rd world nation with no laws on pornography. (Or international waters, if that were somehow feasible.)

I can't log into e-hentai anymore.

The reset password function works, and I did that, but every time I try to log in, I get "The captcha was not entered correctly. Please try again.", even if I enter it correctly.

Can anyone else log in?

I would be surprised if there isn't at least one person out there with a backup of 99.9% of the contents. How much did they have? You look at a site like e621, it's about 2 TB including animations and videos. 2 TB of disk storage costs around $30.

The infamous sadpanda and this move seem paranoid. Other sites are hosting some of the same doujins without problems. Maybe it's time to consider moving to the dark web if you can't take the heat in the Netherrealms.

Exhentai is closer to 50TB than 2. It's not cheap to host. There are some alternatives still around, but Exhentai was by far the best and the most popular, and a whole bunch of translation groups and such have basically been dismantled in one fell swoop with this.

I'm still holding hope for a mirror to pop up, eventually, but it's gonna be a rocky road...

Updated by anonymous

Well that sucks. Another Archive down, more content lost to time.

No doubt there ARE copies somewhere but as @Iago1 points out Exhentai was the best bar-none, and unless they have found tsumino, this is pretty much crippling to translation groups.

Updated by anonymous

It also sucks because there were rare artbooks, cg sets, and interviews from artists who are dead or just gone which couldn't be found anywhere else, that are now lost to time.

Germany would be an alternative, the laws against pedophile content don't apply to drawn, fictional characters.

But I'm currently not sure if article 13 of the EU copyright law would interfere with the content or if the Zoophilia law (no exception like mentioned above) could cause trouble with some artworks (don't know the site)

Fucking goodness gracious. Thank you.

Word to the wise: always keep a note on the names of your doujins.

Not sure how, since it is already gone. I think some folks (myself included) are confusing exhentai (aka sadpanda) with e-hentai itself.

The latter is also supposed to be going down, but not before late 2020. And full mirror will be made available. So that one is hardly urgent.

It's about 60 TB for e-hentai, and growing every day.

Dang I've not heard of anything large-scale being done to archive everything though.

Although there are now rumors popping up left and right.

Well, a 60 TB offline backup is about $1000. A lot worse but still achievable by normal people. Although you probably aren't normal if you are backing up 60 TB of art and smut.

I optimistically believe that nothing has been permanently lost and a stronger replacement will emerge from the ashes. A kick in the ass like this will get more people thinking about long-term solutions.

Damn that fucking sucks

I mainly went there cause the background easier on the eyes and there were no ads, as well as the fact that the instant something gets tagged loli (whether it is or isn't) its automatically taken off the host site with no way to recover it.

Article 13 doesn't concern content, it eliminates the safe harbor clause.

It seems that the site owner is in talks with multiple volunteers who want to reestablish it somewhere else under new management. It's still early to say, but considering how central it is to all the world's hentai community, it sounds pretty likely that it will either be mirrored entirely, or at least its concept copied to a new service in the coming weeks, or at most, months.

Whatever happens, hopefully whoever runs the show next will manage to negotiate a full access to the original database and get everything restored.

My solemn tribute to the end of the sad panda era was nixed by the admins. Outrageous.

FUCK! And guess who/why this is happening? All thanks to the "I can't tell the difference between fiction and reality so neither should you" moralistic shitheads!

Remember that tired old retort to thinks getting censored, about how "stupid" and "whiny" it is to fight against censorship because we have the net.. (also the retarded old argument about how you shouldn't defend fanservice because... porn/hentai!) Well, here we go.. so it begi.... continues!

This! And the community in general is something you will never find on such sites..

Hey, what did I missed?

I couldn't talked about ExHentai due to being a piracy site, but seeing it being taken down suddenly is quite shocking.

I blame Steve Jobs for popularising the Internet.

From my understanding, linking to piracy sites is againts the rules, however discussing of piracy and piracy sites is not.

Similar to how creepy comments are againts the rules, but talk of sexuality is not.

Of course sometimes the line is kinda thin, but when understanding the underlying reasons for the rules and discussing in adult manner it's usually easy to distinguish. If we are banning paid material, what use it is for us if we still allow users to link to it in sources, comments, forums, etc.? At the same time, banning or hiding any mention that piracy exsists is useless censorship and discussion of relevant topics in adult manner should be allowed.

I was actually partially againts the rule change here about the all paid content being DNP, for the reason that majority of older stuff were physical goods which cannot be bought or found in legit ways and the main reason for the rule change was the shift from physical to pretty much solely digital goods which artists generally sell or share pretty much all the time. In the end when it was discussed, most of the stuff we had was mirrored from other websites mainly focusing on storing doujins.

e-hentai was one of the largest doujing websites where most of the content seemed to originate from. With archival, piracy is sometimes the necessary evil, so in that context it is bit of a bummer. However I didn't visit there outside of looking for possible sources and it was still mainly used for pirated content specifically.

exhentai is/was part of e-hentai, just portion of it which contained more problematic material and required proper account or you would get the sad panda.

Also if I'm not entirely wrong, e-hentai is also closing down and exhentai having more problematic material, had nuke button pressed instantly.

Exhentai was not nuked. It was cut offline because the host happened to be in a country where some of the said material happen to be in the process of becoming illegal in the near future, but it wasn't destroyed, simply cut off from the internet.

The site owner has reported that they are working with other people who want to carry on the archive in a different location. According to them, it may open as soon as in a week, though I'd give it a bit more time to get things running smoothly.

It was pretty much a given that the site would carry on in one form or another. As long as there's demand, there's always somebody ready to supply.

Well, that was faster than expected. I thought it might stay down for a whole month. Apparently I underestimated how fast 60TB of data can be transferred, nowadays.

And this is why i love e6 forums, i find literally everything concerning ‘bout the sites i visit or visited.

Then you must have never visited 8ch.net/fur. I'm surprised there isn't a topic on them getting shutdown.
