I figure since not_furry is a tag so is furry, or at least it changes "furry" to something else similar to how dickgirl is now gynomorph or something.

Why? You can negate tags, and blacklisting tags is done by simply adding the tag. There's no logistical reason to have furry as a tag because we have not_furry.

Because I thought it was a tag and I was going to add it to all the furry posts in new to make it easier to find not_furry stuff (because people don't always put not_furry) and in fact spent the last 30 minutes doing exactly that

The lesson to look first before crossing the road applies to more than just crossing the street. While in most cases the consequences aren't as dire as getting ragdolled by 2 tons of metal, they're still easily avoidable by being just a little bit more careful before blindly doing something.

Also while you are at it, for love of god read the wiki of not_furry tag. It's not for scalies, fish, insects and such. It's for stuff like elves, aliens, humanoid robots etc.

In contrast to your effort, you can still do your intended tag project by adding the missing not_furry tag to posts that should have it.

humanoid solo -animal_humanoid -not_furry
This search might be of some use to start this goal.

furry is not a tag because if it was it would apply to roughly 96% of posts, making it not very useful for searching. Instead the small percent of posts that are not_furry are tagged as such. If you'd like to contribute by tagging not_furry posts, it would be greatly appreciated. They're very undertagged. Please carefully read the not_furry wiki page first, and feel free to ask any questions!
