Topic: An image containing my character got uploaded, should I tag their name?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Heya, I'm kinda new to E621, so I'm still trying to figure out the general tagging process. Anyways, I saw an image with one of my characters in it get uploaded here earlier, and I was wondering, should I tag the character's name, even if this is the only image containing them on this site so far?

And if I should tag their name, do I just add it in like a normal tag, or is there some kind of special format I have to use, or a process I have to go through? I looked through all the help menus I could find, but I couldn't find anything about tagging new characters. Can someone please tell me what I should do in this situation? Thanks in advance! ^v^

Yes, use character:*name*.

Alrighty, thanks for the answer! 'v'

Although, I guess I should also ask, since my character's name is Snow, which is kind of a generic word, should I make the tag something like character:*snow_(nyxiette)* or something, so that the system doesn't confuse my character for the cold, white stuff that falls from the sky during winter? Or is just character:*snow* good enough?

(Also, sorry for having like -100 intelligence, but do I need the asterisks too, or were you just using them for the example? Sorry for acting so dumb, but I really don't wanna mess anything up. -v-)

I think character:Snow_(nyxiette) is just fine. character:Snow_(character) is already in use. Snow is a general tag. The system would think you're referring to the actual frozen snowy material.

(also, you do not need asterisks)

Alright, I updated the image in question with what you suggested, and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much for the help! ^v^

A little tip in case it ends up not working for something: As a generic member, you can only edit a tag's type with character: and related modifiers when there are zero uses of that tag (to prevent somebody accidentally changing all snow_(nyxiette) into copyright tags, it may sound silly with your tag but some other tags had some serious issues), but you can always go the tags index to edit its type, found through the "tags" link at the top of the site.

Yeah, I kinda figured as much. ^v^;

Regardless, thanks for the heads up, dude! 'v'
