Topic: [Feature] Tag recommendation system for uploading images

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.

Very often certain tags will be used together with other tags, but should not be implicated to each other. It's also quite easy for users to completely forget about adding applicable tags. Therefore I propose a system to recommend/suggest tags based on already entered tags.

For example, avali should not imply 3_toes, but it's very likely that an image tagged with avali would also be applicable for having the 3_toes tag. In this system, there would be a section for suggested tags which would be populated based on the already entered tags, so if you enter avali it will suggest 3_toes (and possibly other things like avian). Bonus idea: Clicking the suggestion pastes it into the tag list.

Why would it be useful?

The reason I chose the above example is because 3_toes is not a tag that most people would think of to add. If there were a system to suggest possible tags based on already entered tags, there would be significantly less of a chance of people forgetting to include relevant tags.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?

Uploading, and possibly editing.

There's already a related tags feature.

On the upload form and when you edit existing posts, under the tags box, if you click "related tags" it makes a list of already entered tags along with other tags that are often added with those tags. Then clicking a tag adds it to the tags list and shift clicking removes it, in case you click on by accident.

That doesn't solve the problem for two reasons:

1. It only works for things already tagged together with existing tags. Related tags for avali doesn't contain 3_toes.

2. It's quite cumbersome to use, since you have to check each tag.

What I'm thinking of is more of a manual system, like creating tag implications, users and/or mods/admins could create a custom list of recommended tags for every tag. This could even be a special section on the tag's wiki page or something.

Anyone can add things to a wiki page, but then are people really going to check the wiki page for each tag to see if they miss any, that'd be even more cumbersome.

I can also see it being difficult to decide what tags are relevant, as solo/duo/group should be on every post, it could easily just turn into a list of all possible other tags, and given the number of tags it's not something that admins could handle.

Looking at a few pages of avali posts, I'd say 1/3 of the posts show three toes, so there'd probably be a lot of other tags that should get recommended before 3_toes.

Really I'd say the problem, for things like this, is more just a lack of awareness of the tag, most posts aren't tagged with *_toes or *_fingers, but then manually adding those as suggestions for most tags would be a bit excessive.

I often found I'd forget a few tags, such as 5_fingers, the solution I went with was to put a lot of tags in my "quick tags" list that are often on most posts, or ones I saw often in the recommended tags, going down that list and then adding colour_fur/hair/eye tags often does a really good job of catching things.

The point is that tag recommendations would show up during upload, outside of the wiki page (but the content could possibly be generated from wiki pages to utilize an existing user-editable resource)
