+1. Might also make sense to have 16:10 -> 8:5 and 16:12 -> 4:3

Thing I'm thinking here is that the term 18:9 is now really common with smartphone screens, so 2:1 is actually less used. Same with 16:10, that's common desktop resolution and nobody uses 8:5.

IMO the tag which is used should be the most correct term, which is the simplified term, "2:1".

Of course, people familiar with "18:9" can search it up and get results for "2:1", and people can tag "18:9" and it will convert to "2:1", that's the wonders of the tag alias system.

e621 also recently replaced dickgirl/cuntboy with more correct terms, and it doesn't matter if few people can memorize them, since you can still just search up the originals and it works.

You're kinda contradicting yourself. You say that we should keep the simplest form because it's the most correct one. However, your example is replacing the simpler term with the most correct one.

I say keep 18:9 if that's the standard.

Mathematically speaking, it's not simpler. I don't have a stake in this argument either way, but simplified ratios share no common multiple between the two numbers.
