Topic: [Feature/Fixed] Change the 'download' button's functionality back.

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

This is a cross-post(?) from somewhere else, but

The 'download' button's new(?) functionality, seems redundant... actually, seems to have removed a feature really liked/needed.

So, before today, the old download button would simply change your current window to be the full-screen page of the main picture, and that was great.

But, now the new one opens it in an entirely separate tab... This doesn't seem like a big problem, basically the same... But it's actually not only deeply redundant--As you can already right (Or long, for mobile users) click images and open in a new tab--but it was actually a massive feature-removal for some use cases, and, personally, the main reason I picked e621 over other booru-style sites and even FA for pictures.

You can easily end up opening a massively large volume of pictures, in the dozens to hundreds, each time you really need to search for, or find something specific, on the site... or if you take a few hours to do your business ( <.< )... and this of course has effectively DOUBLED the number of tabs you need to have open if you both want to be able to view the picture full screen AND keep open the source page for tags/artist-links and other kinds of stuff... (Before it was simply a matter of hitting back to go to the page, you can't do that from freshly opened new-tabs) Not to mention--since the source page is probably much more resource intensive than just the picture page--it'll be pushing RAM for Chrome users even higher, MORE than doubling.

I'm not asking for a new feature to be disabled cause I don't like it, only reverted, by pointing out that it's actually a removal of a feature if you think about it, as again, you can right/long press images and open them in a new tab already.

I remember when much of my time on Pixiv was having to exit redundant tabs. XD

That's all me using FA or DanBooru is lol, it's a bigger hassle for me than it should be.

For me it opens it in a new tab. Still unnecessary, but maybe you have new tabs set to open in a new window?

Oh! That was actually a typo on my part. I actually meant to type tab instead of window.
Thank you.

Found a workaround for this. There are actually two download buttons on each page, one just below the image and a second one under "Options" in the left sidebar. The latter behaves the same as the old one.

That's actually great!
Thank you for pointing this out!

I agree with the OP, download button should give the current tab fullscreen of the content by default. Single click to make the content fullscreen for each tab is easier and makes it so you dont end up with extra tabs featuring the same thing.

I say keep both and clearly define which button does what - I personally like having images in separate tabs. I support bringing the old one back (though it seems to have never left), but don't dump the new one.

We'll be bringing back the old behavior for both buttons, most likely.

If you're on PC you can open things in a new tab by clicking the link with your mouse wheel. On mobile you'd just have to long press and select the option.

Oh, it's not the download button itself that's directly below the post?

Thank you for chiming in on this!
I know it's a really specific thing, and it's definitely not because of me, but I really appreciate it being worked on.

This should be fixed now. It made it in along with the video volume change.

Thank you guys! I just tested it out to make sure.
Working... I can once again stress out your servers by viewing a rather questionable number of pictures in a short time.
