Topic: Pictures you must be logged in to view

Posted under Art Talk

I noticed since the new update that if I am not logged in, e621 will tell me that some number of pictures on a page weren't shown because you must be logged in to see them.

I just want to know what content in a picture will place a picture locked behind having an account, because I usually don't bother to log in.

The default blackllist is:

gore
scat
watersports
young -rating:s
loli
shota

And it's just a few of those, such as gore and scat, that are hard coded to not be shown while logged out.

Doesn't matter because I can't see anything in posts, favorites or any ware on this new site. just a wall of blue. Also, don't bother trying to reply, because I can't see my posts or replies there-of ether, unless I go to forums.

Remember when you could make your own logged out blacklist and the site did not force their list on you? Pepperidge Farm remembers

mnnnyes. Pepperidge Farm remembers fondly.
I strongly dislike that I have to log in to view all tags. If they plan on keeping this, they better make it so that you can be logged in on multiple devices... I'd have to make a second account just for my phone if they don't, and one misstap on the screen on a comment I already saw and voted on and I'm off to e621 gulag for manipulating the voting system.

It would indeed be nice to have a clear answer on this point.

Thosr blacklisted tags seem to have been selected randomly and without real reason. If it's to protect guests (which are supposed to be adults, so they shouldn't need protection) from odd/disgusting content, why is smelly_feet, body_horror, or rape not involved?

Also like you mentioned Sputty, this is unfair to artists who did invest themselves in such fields, since they will lose a lot of exposure.

I only noticed this when I saw a profile picture showed up as "BLacklisted" but none of the tags for it were things I blacklist (it was a cub pic). I already had to "confirm I was over 18" when I first came onto the site since the update. It comes right out and tells you that there's messed up stuff on here. And as NukeDukem points out, far worse tags such as body_horror and rape aren't blacklisted at all for the signed out view.

It made much more sense for us to have to opt-in to blacklisting tags rather than having to opt-out of having random tags blacklisted for us by being forced to make an account, especially since e621 automatically logs me out if I don't get on for a few days.

The only reason why I can think that they did this is to reduce the amount of people complaining about certain material and the wave of "use blacklist" comments that follow it. And if that's the case, then it needs some serious tweaking done to it, because as it is now it seems like all it does is inconvenience and irritate those that regularly use the site rather than those that refuse to use the features available to them.

Yeah not a fan either, E621 is used for linking to images a lot, the least they could do is to make images visible when linked directly for users who are not logged in.

You can be logged in on as many devices as you want to with a single account. That has always worked, just be sure to enable "Remember Me" (was "Roaming" on the old page).

Is there a good reason why this was forced on guests in the first place, knowing that it never was a problem for 8+ years, and that it seems like the tags are incoherent in their inclusion? Why censor gore, but not snuff, body_horror, and scat but not stinky_feet, macro/micro, and puke?
The problem here is that people like me using private sessions don't want to be forced to log in everytime to access all posts, something that never was an issue before. Why is e621 pushing everyone to use accounts lately, with first the removal of wildcards for guests, and now outright tags and content being behind an account-wall?
I just want to browse porn on a porn site without having to jump through loops, is it so hard to put an option to disable the blacklist for guests?

Then something wasn't working. I always click (or tap) roaming out of habit from when I used a VPN, since it might switch servers when traffic is getting too high on the server I'm using. That way it didn't log me out. In my experience, it only stopped automated log-outs if you changed IP's, not when you're changing devices. I could change cellular towers and stay logged in on my phone. I could change VPN location from New York City to Los Angeles and stay logged in. But, I could never log in to my PC and my phone at the same time, and I'll try right now.

Welp, it looks like the roaming option has been axed entirely on the new site... I don't see the checkmark box for that option. I'll try logging into both at the same time anyways.

huh. Neat. I can now be logged in on the same account on multiple devices.

I no longer resent this change as much as I had, but I still find blacklisting tags to guests to be a bad thing, because artists who work under those tags will not be able to gain any guest exposure on this site anymore. Or, at least, they won't get as much.

I can confirm that, it always logged me out of my phone when I used my PC, and vice versa, despite using the roaming option. Good that it seems to work as intended now though.

Yo, thanks.
That just means I don't have to worry about logging in, cause those automatically blocked things aren't what I want to see.
Thanks! :3

I get why you did this, but I think there should atleast be a clear notice for, and an easy way to disable/edit, the default blacklist. Something like: "you are viewing e621 with a default blacklist, click here to edit it". This would protecc innocent internet users from extreme content, while not unnowingly locking them out of their favorite fetishes.

To be clear, I don't like this 'default blacklist', but this should atleast be a middle ground.

Edit: ok, so I logged out to check, and considering how easy it is to fix, as long as there's a clear indication I can accept the default guest blacklist. What I DO NOT accept is the 'shadow blacklist shenanigans' that puts a straight out log-in requirement for viewing young content (cleared the blacklist and still couldn't see it)

This is a step in the wrong direction

What, you don't want obfuscation and everything being decided for you? ;)

The change happened after recent changes in laws for the viewing of underage porn on the internet. I may be wrong but I remember seeing something about policy change. Even if it didnt pass (because I can't find anything specific) I have the distinct thought that something in the news has caused the admins of e621 to get a little nervous about having such content available to anyone. A recent change like this has also occured on YouTube, forcing you to sign in to view mature content, like a violent videogame or rude commentary.
