Topic: "siberian_tiger" is not Siberian

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Despite last year's massive taxonomic overhaul toward more accurate species tags, siberian_tiger continues to be misused as a substitute for the now-aliased white_tiger (which is a colour morph of the Bengal, and not actually seen in the north). There was a previous thread on this in which NMNY articulated the position adopted for several other species, in which colour morphs were turned into general tags implicated to the species (i.e. marble_fox, cross_fox etc. under red_fox), yet ironically for tiger this was overlooked.

While edge cases like the Black Tiger can be left to basic colour tags, white tigers enjoy enough recognition (both here and amongst the general public) that there's a compelling case to restore the tag based on the precedent seen in the red fox overhaul.
