Topic: Some Kewl Statistics

Posted under General

Well, I was internetting, and found some cool shit here.
Like, we are the 3,309th most visited website in the U.S. which is only about 1500 places behind fa.
Also on that note, we are massively larger than both sofurry and inkbunny combined by like a ratio of 4:1.
There's also some cool demographic stuff there too...I don't know how accurate that is though.

and 100% more tagging drama :v

It's the fact that admins and users care so much about tagging that makes the site so great. Trying to find comparable sites for other art is nearly impossible.

Agreed. I've looked around a few times. Most of the other boorus are dysfunctional ghost towns when it comes to tagging, with only a select few people involved, very little discussion between those few, and a whole shit ton of inconsistent tag messes. Here, at e621, things get discussed and things get enforced. But I hardly think that's a bad thing. Things also get done. We talk about the tags a whole lot more, but I think we also have a lot more to show for it.

Not too shabby.

When comparing total posts, the distinction must be made that e621 enforces a minimum quality "filter" whereas all (?) other furry art databases/sites have less stringent post requirements. To that end, e621 is more of a showcase site whereas others can better function as A to Z portfolio repositories. I'm specifically eluding to sketches and unfinished work, but that consideration also applies to various placeholder posts (e.g., Y.C.H.s and the like), stories, duplicate artist + commissioner submissions, "inferior quality" posts on a case-by-case basis, and so on.

Also--and this is crucial--the post counting algorithms across compared websites must be identical or accurately fulfill the same purpose. Ideally, this is a current count of all posts viewable to general site members, which excludes posts with limited access (i.e., private or admin only) and deleted/destroyed posts. Otherwise, each post counter should record and display all posts successfully submitted to date, regardless of current status, the logistics of which are still dicey. For instance, should each revision for a specific picture/upload be counted, or can artists/uploaders designate a definitive version, significantly reducing misleading data? (Basically, replacement allowed or strictly incremental counting?)

Based on a few technical rants I've happened into, I view F.A.'s technical implementation and administrative decisions as a big question mark (read: deserving of paranoid uncertainty), so I have less confidence in the accuracy of their post count.
