Topic: Why is male/solo aliased to male?

Posted under General

Bi dude, but my taste fluxtuates a little straighter or gayer over time. Today I tried to filter for -male/male and -male/solo in an attempt to return only male/female, male/intersex, female/intersex, etc, but I discovered to my dismay that male/solo has been aliased to Male, which also removes all the male/female, male/intersex, etc results! Why the removal of the standalone solo tag?

Because male/solo isn't a valid tag. Nor is solo_male, or any variation of such, unfortunately. The reasoning is that "Well, then we'd have to add solo_x tags for all the other sexes, and that would just contribute to tag bloat!" I really think the good that would come of it would be more than enough to make up for the (comparatively minor, even!) tag bloat, but...I'm not the one who makes the rules, so, meh!

Would -male/male and -solo not work?

That would filter out solo pictures of females, intersex characters, etc.

See forum #26153: Why has the Solo_(insert gender) tags disappeared?

If you want to filter out male/male and male solo add them on separate lines to your blacklist.

I guess that works, although changing the blacklist all the time is less than ideal. Thanks for the advice and the link, though.

I’m trying to search a tag with male only pictures. Would I just type in Foot_fetish -female?

Hokey necromancy, Batwinkle! Actually, I think foot_fetish -female -intersex -ambiguous_gender would be closer to what you want. Some more finagling would be needed if you want to throw in male_(lore) as well.

foot_fetish male ~solo ~male/male will return all foot_fetish posts with a visibly male character, so long as they either have a male/male pairing, or consist of a solo character. You may furthermore add ~male/ambiguous to get characters who could pass as male, as long as one of them is visibly male.

Why DON'T forums have a 'no bump' option unlike comments on posts?

Then people would be spamming old forum threads with nonsense for months before they are discovered.
The "no bump" option just hides the comment from appearing on the newest results of the Comments page.

Because then you would have a new message in a thread that remains buried under several hundred other threads, which is remarkably pointless.

Really... It's incredibly annoying. Sole or solo male and female should absolutely be tags. To consolidate those two is ridiculous and bloats searches with stuff you aren't interested in/don't want to see and we can't black list the solo female or male because those tags don't exist. Just do it for female and male. Other sites have kept it. Why is it backwards, here?

On the contrary, solo is far and away the best tag to treat this way. The presence of a solo tag implies that no more than one gender tag should be present in the image - no other tag can offer that guarantee. Therefore, there will always be reliable ways to either search for or exclude solo content of a specific gender that don't rely on thousands of users all individually remembering to use an additional more specific tag.

Maybe there's something I'm not getting, but - you know the blacklist works the same as searches, right? You can put "solo male" on the same line in your blacklist and it'll filter out all posts that are tagged both solo and male. It won't filter any solo females.
