Topic: The tag "forge" needs reforging

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Currently, forge is aliased to forge_(artist), who is DNP.

Unfortunately, this also nails people trying to tag the blacksmithing device, resulting in the image getting hit with the avoid_posting locked tag even though the artist Forge isn't involved.

The alias for forge should be broken, and replaced with an alias to forge_(disambiguation), to let people know about the other uses of "forge" on this site.

(I didn't use the "Request alias" page because I don't know if it can handle the situation without barfing, given the preexisting-but-wrong alias to the artist.)

(The two images that brought my attention to this are post #2260509 and post #2200236, for the record. The incorrect "forge" tag was removed from the respective posts, but the DNP tag remains thanks to it being an auto-locked tag.)

I would almost like to keep it for the artist, simply because most people who don't know to check the tag, don't know how to use the site and are much more likely to upload DNP artist.

Oh god this is messy but necessary..
Is it viable to add forge_(disambiguation) as an implication from the artist tag, so that at the very least it's applied for taggers to search when new forge taggings are made?

That unfortunately doesn't solve the issue of "the image getting hit with the avoid_posting locked tag even though the artist Forge isn't involved." Once avoid_posting is tagged on a post, it's automatically locked and requires a moderator to remove it. This has happened a fair number of times already, and I don't foresee it stopping because it's a word with other uses (the blacksmithing device called a forge, a number of characters named forge, etc). Also, since there are no active posts with forge_(artist), the suggested tag popup won't show the forge -> forge_(artist) alias when typing in 'forge', making the unexpected change when submitting.

1. We have already have couple users trying to get rid of avoid posting tag without success, so on the flipside, accidentally locked tag is small issue compared to posts which we end up hosting with stuff like "anonymous artist" when uploader tries to get away with it.
2. Click on "preview final tags".

I don't object to avoid_posting being a tag that auto-locks itself, requiring a moderator to clear. It makes plenty of sense to be like that. But on the flip side, I would think that means it should be more careful about being wantonly applied, since it requires moderator intervention to fix (and runs the risk of improper deletion, if a moderator doesn't realize it was added by mistake). I just think the forge -> forge_(artist) alias causes more problems than it attempts to avoid because of that, and since people who try to sneak DNP stuff through as "anonymous artist" wouldn't tag "forge" for the artist in the first place.

Out of curiosity, if you run across a random post tagged avoid_posting, but you can't find a reason why it should be tagged that, what happens? Do you keep the post and remove the tag as a likely mistake? Or delete the post as better safe than sorry?
