I believe I am the only one actually using those tags. I'm using them to disambiguate actual multicolored items, and two two items that imply multicolored. I wanted to do this to minimize the effort of populating such a tag at a future date if it was decided that there should be a distinction between two tone, and more than two tones, and guarantee that I wasn't really adding to the problem by including multicolored tags to posts that weren't yet already implicated.
I figured they would be aliased eventually, but I'd prefer it not be because it is an "Oh noes this tag isn't part of multicolored" reaction. I want it to be based on a matter if the content I am collecting is useful or may have a use in the future.

I guess I did something wrong here... sorry, I will not bother with this tag ever again... :(

I'm the only one who uses those multi-variant tags, and that's mainly because I figured it was worth it to distinguish between actual multicolored items, and two two items that imply multicolored. I figured they would have been aliased eventually, but I'd prefer it not be because it is an "Oh noes this tag isn't part of multicolored" reaction. Because none of these tags were being used and no one cared if they were being used before I started filling them with a useful purpose.
Assuming people actually tagged things correctly, couldn't you also just search multicolored_ears -two_tone_ears for the same effect? Unless you just want a shortened way of doing so, since that's kind of lengthy.

I was in the process of modifying my post since it was poorly written. I was collecting examples as I tagged, because I figured I should save time of someone doing it later if it was decided that implying everything two tone into multicolored wasn't a great idea after all. There are still quite a few cases that don't have the implication in place, which means the two tags are mostly uncontaminated, but that will not be the case indefinitely.
Your message:
Yes, you can narrow down the results quite a bit by doing such a search. But that will also hide duo, and group scenes with many colored things in it as well. The likelihood of two characters having different color counts for the same anatomy increases with how many characters are in the scene. Large group orgies in particular would fall victim to those kinds of searches.
It was one of the arguments against implying two tone to multicolored, and really I don't know how useful it will be. Perhaps unaliasing three, four, five color tone tags would be a better compromise, and then we could fill those tags like we do two tone. Most things would fall under 3 or 4 colors that aren't rainbow.
It would also be really nice to be able to quantify tags. > three_tone could return all multi color tags higher than 3. Something to consider for sure.

Ah, that's a fair point. I sometimes forget how difficult higher character count images make searching and tagging. I'd be fine with an additional tag for more than two colors. As long as multicolored_* keeps its (current) use. Sometimes lighting or angles makes it hard to tell if something's two-tone or more than two-tone, so I default to multicolored in those cases.
That said, I still wouldn't be upset if this all got aliased back to just two_tone_* and multicolored_*.
At this point it probably would be useful to start utilizing three_tone_*, four_tone_*, five_tone_*, and other similar sets of tags. I think it'd be a good idea to make a forum topic on the possibly of using [number]_tone_* tags.
Though the multi_tone_* group of tags seem far too similar to the multicolored_* group of tags, simply from the phrasing of these tags. This alias could be set aside for some time if these tags are being used for a tagging project, but I think multi_tone_* should eventually be aliased.
