Topic: Blacklist not working on mobile

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

my blacklist hasn't been working on mobile for months. I've gotten by searching with "-" behind unwanted tags to substitute the blacklist. I'm on Chrome on android, and I made sure javascript was enabled cause I saw that that was an issue on previous posts on this issue. Manually typing the unwanted tags is tedious, so help would be appreciated.

are you sure you're blacklisting stuff properly? there should be line breaks between each entry.

for example
thing_a thing_b
will blacklist posts containing both thing_a and thing_b

thing_a thing_b

will blacklist posts containing either thing_a or thing_b

Double check you didn't accidentally disable your blacklist on the index page. Open any search, scroll down past all thumbnails and there you should see "Blacklisted" and the text below it should either say "Disable All" when all blacklist entries are active, or "Enable All" when some are disabled. If you want to ensure all blacklist entries are active just toggle it until it says "disable all" again and it should be working fine once more.

This has been an ongoing problem for me too. I’m very sick of it!

The option you’re talking about is pointless, considering you have to scroll all the way down through all the crap you don’t want to see in order to reactivate the Blacklist. That’s how it is on mobile.

It wasn’t like this before. Before, we didn’t have to worry about babysitting our Blacklist in order make sure it’s activated, rather than just let it do what it’s supposed to independently after we’ve listed tags on it. I don’t mean to be rude, but this is highly inconvenient.

How do you reactivate blacklist? Mine won’t let me.

You normally re-activate the blacklist by scrolling down past all of the posts on the search page, and clicking on "re-enable all" in the blacklist section: https://i.imgur.com/vB3MbUL.png
What do you mean by "it won't let you"?

You can refer to the comment above yours to find where the Blacklist toggle is supposed to be located.

If you cannot find "Blacklisted" on your page, then you probably have nothing in your blacklist to begin with.

I've been having the same exact issue, for some reason EVERYTHING i have set as blacklisted decides to show up anyways and I have to turn it off and back on to get it properly working and it's REALLY annoying

Weird, I thought the default was to not even have them in the source, until JS ran. Did this get changed?

Disclaimer: I don't work or volunteer for e621.

I know there was a change to how the blacklisting worked around late 2021 or early 2022, at least on desktop. It was probably whenever this change landed in production.

From an end-user point of view...

Before the change:

When the blacklist process started running, it would check each thumbnail, and add the class .blacklisted-active to each thumbnail it had checked. If the submission for that thumbnail was on the blacklist, it also added the class .blacklisted to that thumbnail. You would end up with every thumbnail having .blacklisted-active in its class, and the ones that were actually blacklisted also had .blacklisted in its class.

After the change:

When the blacklist process started running, it would check each thumbnail, but it didn't add anything to the thumbnail if the submission wasn't blacklisted. If the submission for that thumbnail was on the blacklist, it also added the class .blacklisted to that thumbnail. You would end up with only the blacklisted thumbnails having .blacklisted in the class.

Both before and after the change, the CSS (I think) had a rule to hide any class marked with .blacklisted.

From a site-code point of view...

Looking at the code on Github, it looks like before the change, the site also rewrote the links to any blacklisted submissions to point to a placeholder image. After the change, the site didn't change the links, but just relied on hiding anything marked with .blacklisted.

Better explanation - more detailed - Thanks!
Yeah, it was doing placeholders so if you ran some ancient browser or with JS+CSS blocked, or no local storage, it would (not) do all kinds of crazy things.

I would like to use this opportunity to call the Mods and Administration to come forward with an explanation for the sheer amount of CP and Baby stuff now being uploaded.

I have every possible tag in my blacklist to remove that stuff, and yet I can't seem to scroll through a single page without seeing that awful shit.

So, either the pedos have come up with new tags, or your blacklisting is broken.

Also, I was under the impression that shit wasn't allowed on here?

I lost it and had to write this after scrolling past an MLP animation with OVER SEVEN HUNDRED UPVOTES! WITH A BABY FUCKER AS THE THUMBNAIL!

JESUS FUCK!

I just want some sexy foxes. Not to be put on a fucking list

Calm down.
You chose to remove young from your default blacklist. I don't understand why you are now complaining about seeing young content.

I've re-added that tag to your blacklist.

Just young -rating:s is sufficient.
That's the default setting. It covers pretty much all contentious stuff.

That would miss all young human/humanoid or etc. with young intersex characters and rated explicit, since they aren't tagged cub, loli, or shota, and it isn't rated S or Q. Instead, just use
young -rating:s loli shota
To avoid seeing absolutely all posts with young characters and not rated safe, while also covering the possibility of loli/shota posts rated safe. Unfortunately, there's no way to exclude intersex-body young characters rated safe since we don't have tags for them and loli & shota are exclusively for females and males, respectively, but this is the next best thing because it still catches nearly every post one might complain about.
