I've run into a few entries that has anthro skunk as a tag. Is there a reason why this isn't aliased to just skunk?

I'd assume it's just because not everything gets caught straight away. Or at all.
It looks like it's only one account doing it, and only within the last three weeks?
No idea why they're only using that for skunks though, they're piling tag edits right up otherwise.

Yeah, no, that's an unnecessary tag. There's a frustrating number of tags like that, where they don't fit this site's tagging style, but somebody added them anyway, on a whim/not knowing better/what have you, and either they keep adding it to things because they don't get caught, or other users discover the tag and assume it's valid, so they start adding it, too.
This post seems to be patient zero, probably an accidental underscore between anthro and skunk, and then everything else was a new-ish tagger copying it just because they saw it.
