Topic: Newbie artist & e621

Posted under Art Talk

So I'm a newbie artist, I've only had my Cintiq for a week and am still trying to get my feet on the ground. I've found out that my stuff from FA and Inkbunny is being posted here and while I don't mind it as much and people generally seem to like it I spotted practice material being posted here earlier today, it was a slideshow of my OC in various states of pregnancy and outfits and it was massively being downvoted (slight hyperbole here as it was only just posted). Aside from my own opinion that I don't believe that belongs here as it's just a collection of stills on a white background, it was still a kick in the teeth (I have some issues with anxiety I'm working on, I find it difficult to ignore this). I much rather have criticism and suggestions than just tens of voiceless red downdoots. How are you guys dealing with posted stuff that doesn't belong, and receiving those downvotes?

I saw your post and honestly felt that it did not deserve those downvotes, your art style is decent and the post did not have any inherent flaws in it (other than it being a slideshow of still images).
As for those downvotes, it could be because people were expecting something animated but got still images instead, or it's just how people feel about niche content.
I would have asked people to simply blacklist and move on, but most people would just downvote stuff they don't like seeing (e.g., smelly, scat, diaper, gore, etc).

If you feel that it doesn't belong here, you may follow what @MagnusEffect has said and request for the piece to be deleted/taken down.
Optionally, you can also request for a special "Do Not Post" status from an admin on what gets posted here (e.g., only I can post here, only SFW content, no WIP content, etc).

One thing which might ease the anxiety, look at both the score and the favcount and focus on the favcount for anything niche/controversial. If people liked it enough to favorite it don't be too discouraged by people with poor blacklists downvoting subject-matter they don't like. On the opposite end of the spectrum people tend to upvote but not favorite SFW content which they approve of.

Out of curiosity, why do you think that it doesn't fit here?
It's furry artwork of a pretty good quality. That's the kind of thing that e621 archives.

Well, I figured this website be where completed works go, not stuff like these stills. I presume the original downvotes were because people were expecting highly animated work.
But I'll take those compliments, thanks! ^^
