Topic: Tag alias: protagonist_(undertale) -> frisk_(undertale)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #48985 frisk_(undertale) -> protagonist_(undertale) has been rejected.

Reason: As promised, now that the de-alias has gone through, I'm here to request the inversion. As a reminder: The protagonist of Undertale has a canonical name, and that name is Frisk. Chara has their own tag already. And there's no longer any need to avoid spoilers, as the game is five years old.

EDIT: The tag alias frisk_(undertale) -> protagonist_(undertale) (forum #300884) has been approved by @bitWolfy.

I think this is backwards

They reversed it before approving it, so that it still aliases to the non-spoilery term. Nothing ever points out that's the characters name until the True Protagonist ending, and then it's only very briefly mentioned.

Why do spoilers matter?

I don't have a strong opinion one way or another regarding this. Either one works.
This request got no responses, and I got nothing from the staff either, so I went with the existing precedent – frisk was already aliased to protagonist_(undertale).

Yeah, I hadn’t seen this before either, but I’d think the character’s canonical name would be better to use. In fact, we could even just use the plain frisk tag since that’s been aliased to protagonist for so long, and I don’t think there’s really any other use for it. Technically, frisk is a verb, but I really doubt anyone is going to try to use it as such. I think most people know who Frisk is by now.

Actually, that tag might be better off disambiguated, since there are at least 3 other characters name frisk, plus a few characters and copyrights that include the word frisky.

The bulk update request #2006 is active.

create alias protagonist_(undertale) (0) -> frisk_(undertale) (4768)
create implication frisk_(undertale) (4768) -> undertale (42836)
create alias frisk (0) -> frisk_(disambiguation) (0)

Switching over alias #48985 and disambiguating frisk.

Looks like an earlier complaint was confusion over Chara and Frisk, but you can always ask the artist or make your own judgements where you can't tell them apart.

Eh. I’m not convinced any of those other frisk* tags are going to be confused for this well-known character, and I think a disambiguation is most likely to end up filled with people tagging the undertale character’s name without checking if it’s a valid tag.

It would be nice to see a record of how many times a tag has been changed via an alias, so we could see how often the old frisk -> protagonist_(undertale) alias was being used, and how often it was for the character.

The other valid use of frisk would be frisking, which is a lot less common than I thought, and the related joke tag cavity_search.

Edit: Ok, I got all the posts that were ever tagged with frisk, protagonist_(undertale, and frisk_(undertale) that are not currently tagged with protagonist_(undertale): set:frisk_not_undertale. A lot of these posts are obviously still undertale, though, presumably confusion with kris_(deltarune) or ambiguous character humans. So here it is without any of the common undertale characters: set:frisk_not_undertale -chara_(undertale) -toriel -flowey_the_flower -deltarune -alphys -asriel_dreemurr -sans_(undertale) -temmie_(undertale) -underfell -asriel_dreemurr_(god_form) -gaster I think the only valid use of the tag (so far) was post #283306, which is a character only used once. Sadly no frisking posts to add to the collection.

I doubt a disambiguation is necessary, but I support it anyway just so this can be done with.

Aliasing it to frisk_(undertale) is another way it could be “done with.”
