The bulk update request #513 has been rejected.

Reason: This is a complete reversal of the original Entwined BUR, that was approved during Millcore's latest server abuse. I regret writing it and its five sequels (still pending, will probably be rejected). Update: I rejected them myself

The original was probably approved because not enough people looked at/voted on it. It was unnecessarily verbose; at the time, I naively thought that more aliases = better, though that was not the case, as it was later explained to me.

My motivation for writing it was the (then) recent approval of two or three standalone aliases to entwined_tails. I mistakenly presumed that "entwined" had officially been chosen as the standard for all uses of "entwining"/"intertwining"/"twining"/interlacing"/"interlocking"/et cetera.

However, some people announced their preference for other base tags. I honestly have to admit that I actually wanted to use something else instead of entwined_*, even as I was writing the BUR. entwined_* just sounds weird. Yeah, I said it.

Others also wanted to use two different base tags: one for fingers, toes, arms and legs and another one for everything else. I am vehemently against that. It defeats the very purpose of standardisation. If the appendages are going through the same process, the process should be tagged the same way. No, the process does not stop being the same just because fingers aren't flexible enough to literally wrap around each other. We all know what is meant when someone says "entwined fingers", even if it is not all that pleasant to the ears.

People of the e621 Forum, please suggest an appropriate base tag that can be applied to fingers, toes, tails, arms, legs, necks, penises, tongues, tentacles, trunks and whatever else that I might be forgetting.

Once again, I am sorry for not researching this as well as I should have. I ended up making a mess instead of helping and now I'm going to try to reverse it. Please keep offering me great advice and suggestions. Remember to vote if you are in favor (or not) of anything in the script above (or any other BUR script, really. IMHO, it should be done more often) and offer arguments explaining your position.

My two cents: interlaced_* should be the base tag, because it has obvious cognates in Romance languages and anyone who speaks Portuguese/Spanish/French/Italian will intuitively use it and recognize it.

isn't that bad of a tag. There is no need to get anxious about it. I'm willing to use whatever name we give it, and have already used entwined fingers a couple times since. I have since gotten over my initial overreaction about the term.

I say that entwined is probably as good as we are going to get, and it makes sense for tails, tentacles and the like. We shouldn't use a different term for those, and it no longer matters if it is used for fingers or arms to me. I have slight reservations over arms, and feel like the sheer differences in context may warrant we use different tags based on if it is a romance type scene or something more like a wrestling move. But it could easily be used for both.

Regardless of your disposition towards the use of that base, it would be better to cancel the original BUR because of the verbosity and then make a new one with just the essential aliases. The main purpose of the above script is to avoid filling the search bar with an avalanche of useless tags. @Watsit explained it in the second Entwined BUR.

I take it that you vote for entwined, then? If you would like to keep it just because it's already done, I suggest reconsidering. Now is the time to change your mind. Do you truly believe that something else would not be more appropriate?

Not really useless if they are all synonyms that mean roughly the same thing. That is how people will be able to still tag the thing even if they don't know which tag we are using.

entwined_tails was already a thing. I disagree with calling it interlaced_tails. That tag was always named entwined_tails. If we must have a single word for everything, entwined is my preferred choice, because it makes more sense to call twisting tails that. I want to argue that interlocked may have a distinctive meaning, and could be beneficial to distinguish between two things pressed together, and two things twisted together.

I keep thinking about how weird of a term entwined is when referring to wrestling moves, but even then it is not improper to call it entwined.

The "useless"/unnecessary aliases that I am referring to are mostly the singular -> plural and x_base -> base_x kind. If you look closely, the original BUR is almost four times as long as it needed to be. If people are not actually using the "wrong" tags, the alias should be avoided for the reasons discussed in topic #28084

Your preference was made clear. Whether entwined will be chosen as the final base tag or not depends on user feedback. It only makes sense that this issue is decided by the community. If most votes end up being towards entwined, that's what we will use. However, it is necessary to have a good representation of the average forum reader. In my opinion, at least 20 votes should be gathered before going forward.
