Topic: [Bug] Images don't load anywhere when using a Samsung Smart TV

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

When I enter the website and go to Posts, no images load, and clicking where they should be does nothing, as if nobody has ever uploaded a thing.
Part affected: Posts
Expected behavior: Posts page loads with search results or recent uploads
Actual behavior: No images load.

Bug occurs 100% of the time.
Steps taken to replicate: Use a Samsung Smart TV, open the Web Browser, and go to this website, in the posts section.

Unless any of the developers happen to have a Samsung TV, I don't think they'll be able to investigate this.

I don't know if Samsung TVs run Android, but if it does have you tried installing another browser? I couldn't stream video on my Android TV and installed Firefox then suddenly all the streaming worked.

Updated

I remember seeing other issues like this. But people who experienced them were using old devices that had trouble running Javascript. I wonder if this problem is connected to that somehow.
But since I don't have a Samsung TV, nor do I know of another way to test this, I can't really say for sure.

Have you tried accessing e621 on the Samsung Smart Fridge™ yet? Anyone else knows if this works?

All current models of Samsung smart TVs run Tizen OS, which is essentially Samsungs own customized Linux distro to use on all of their devices that aren't smartphones, from smartwatches to fridges.
Now the question is, what years model are we talking about? Because 2015 and prior models used "Samsung Legacy Platform" instead, at which point something like browser could be straight up abysmal.

e621 currently relies pretty heavily on javascript, this way it's possible to have blacklisted items never even load (where previously the page would first load and after it was fully loaded it would remove blacklisted items), give a fair warning to new visitors how this site is only for adults before they have image of furry with dick tongue fucking corpse on their screen and with stuff like upload form help with correct formatting in real time. Because of this, if the browser is old, really bad or doesn't support/has disabled javascript, the posts will not load.

I personally have 2019 model and I can say with confidence that the browser is actually pretty great. I can play even the most demanding WebM files from this site and they play just fine.
Meanwhile my older Panasonic smart TV is so old that not even youtube app works anymore and I'm not putting that thing online even to test anything for my own security.

If all else fails, you could plug in a Fire Stick, Chromecast, Raspberry Pi, desktop, laptop, or use Wi-Fi Direct screen mirroring.

My TV does support screen mirroring, but problem with android phone is that it's wider 19.5:9 aspect ratio means that now there's letterboxing, but playing 16:9 content also letterboxes the content on phones screen, so now the content is inside black box.
With laptop or computer, it works fine, but for some reason it will not work with ethernet connection and I saw extremely heavy compression from that, including that "breathing" effect when static image on screen suddenly gets muddy and then back detailed every second.

What actually works flawlessly is Steam link, which is also available as an app for Samsung TVs (one of the reasons why I went with samsung) and it can manage 4K 60FPS stream, either wifi or ethernet, with miniscule lag and amazing quality and you can use either gamepads or keyboard and mouse that are directly plugged to TV.
