I am probably going to regret asking this, but when I have posted

https://e926.net/posts/2449626?q=eukayoticprokaryote

in other places, the reception has generally been quite positive.

Why did it get so many downvotes here?

My reading on the situation is that it's:
a. Fairly graphic and unsettling (the man restrained, the claws, the kinda creepy expression)
and
b. Not very sexy.

Generally things that are graphic or disturbing won't do too as well in terms of upvotes because many people react negatively. They might do well in terms of favorites but those tend to skew towards sexier content that people want to save for later. None of this means that the art is bad by any objective measure. I personally think it's very interesting and conveys character really well. But it's fighting an uphill battle to succeed in terms of the internet points on this site. One thing which might help is that it should probably be rated explicit or at least questionable.

The fact that yiff trends so much better than all other content is a great shame, in my opinion.
Just look at rating:explicit order:score vs rating:safe order:score. The top NSFW posts get 3-4 times the upvotes and almost 10 times the favorites more than SFW stuff. And even then, a good chunk of well-rated safe stuff is memes and jokes that get upvoted because they are popular or funny, not because of the artistic quality of the piece.

But then again, the image in question is not without issues. Don't get me wrong, the clown character looks pretty nice - the design is certainly quite interesting. The human, on the other hand...
I'm no expert in anatomy, but something seems wrong with him. I can't quite pinpoint what exactly it is - maybe it's the torso that's too short, or the way the head is attached to the body. Or whatever is going on with his feet.

Ahh, yeah, I could see that... Thanks for you input.

Yeah, this was not supposed to be...sexy.

I didn't think of this as explicit, though I considered questionable, but it's a PG image. I was just wondering if people were downvoting it because they have dirty minds. But that kind of makes me feel better, if it's true.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd guess it's where his neck is. As the artist, I think, now, his head should probably be at a lower angle, because otherwise, how would his neck bend like that? But, it is what it is. I will do better next time I have to draw a poor guy with his head bowed...whenever that is. And I didn't bother drawing the toes on his feet, because it's in the background, but your feedback is duly noted. Thank you for letting me know your thoughts.

I didn't mean the toes, that's understandable. It's just foot is quite long - look at his left foot, the distance from heel to toes. It almost seems like it's supposed to be digitigrade. And his right foot looks like it ends with a hoof.
I'm sorry, it seems that I'm nitpicking now. I doubt that his feet is what turned people away from the piece.

I think humans in general are easier to get generally "wrong" in art, especially when juxtaposed with more abstract-friendly anthro designs.

The anthro character looks good here in my opinion, but torture-art tends to get pretty heavily downvoted if it's not porn. (And there's still pockets of people like me who come here to avoid human art.)

If I had to guess, the anthropomorphic character's large head makes it look a bit cartoonish, and the human looks to have been quite rushed. Feet are malformed, legs appear to have mismatched muscle definition relative to arms, nose looks a bit broad and flat, likely due to lacking defined nostrils or a bridge. The attempt at more realistic proportions on the human character makes this all stand out, and it does also mismatch the more "toony" anthro.

Just my guess, though.

I don't really think anybody is downvoting this because the anatomy is bad. I've seen posts with 500+ score that look like a 5-year-old's knowledge of anatomy, of course those are porn though. I'd think it's the "graphic and unsettling" nature of the image that tittybitty mentioned, lots of people are here for porn and this is probably a boner killer.

8 downvotes is not a lot. Also, it doesn't have tags like gore, blood, torture (it should have blood at a minimum). Someone has those blacklisted, opens it, downvotes and leaves.

Am I blind? I don't really see any blood in there.

Looking at it at full res, I see that it's colored brown or gray instead of red, but it still looks like he has blood running down from cuts on his arm and chest. From where he was clawed presumably.
