Topic: How, or when, to know that your art is good enough to start doing NSFW?

Posted under Art Talk

Everybody knows there's nothing worse than erotic with bad anatomy, so how does one understands that "it's time"? I want to try to start drawing NSFW eventually, but I ain't confident in my anatomy skills yet, and I don't want to make people's eyes bleed.

Besides showing people art and asking if it's any good, of course. Not only there's very few people I can nag with that kind of question and expect an expert answer, but I also really don't want anybody knowing that I'm drawing "this kind of stuff", especially my friends, (too many social risks), so if I'll draw anything, it will be posted from a fake account with no ties to my person (and with constant paranoia that I'll accidentally mess something up and people will be able to connect the dots, lol).

I think there are many possibilities like discord servers or sites explicitly to upload things to get feedback.
Also I share the same situation like you. So you can't ask "your friends" but maybe you can make and ask darth e621's friends ;P
Also if something is not intently drawn "wrong" it doesn't matter if it's nsfw or not IMO. My eyes bleed anyways :D
and lastly I'm no pro but if you want feedback I could be one of those you share your work with and could give you feedback as long as I have the time.

I just realized that ypur question didn't get answered with this. So I don't know. Especially because I don't produce anything (at least at the moment) but I could imagine that uploading at some sites with different quality standards. Afterwards checking out how it works out could give an image of how good you are and if that is enough.

Actually, I would encourage you to at least do nudes, although whether they have the "interesting bits" included (ie. realistic vs. Saturday morning cartoon nude) is up to you. The reason for this is anatomy practice. You can't draw NSFW unless you know how muscle groups interact with the skeleton, etc., etc., and clothes often get in the way for that. Having two or more people "going at it" will help you learn how to draw characters interacting.

If you're concerned about causing other peoples' eyes to bleed, that would happen whether you're drawing SFW or NSFW, regardless. Furthermore, if you don't think it's good enough to be posted, you don't have to post it.

+1 to all of this. I'm not sure if I can really add onto this for general advice. Aside from just... Make sure you draw what you enjoy, at least from time to time. I've known of many people who don't do that and it kills all enjoyment they get from drawing.

So as far as the question goes: There isn't really a "good enough" to start NSFW. Start whenever you want. As Clawstripe above me said, it can actually help.

Well, okay, let me rephrase it then. =D How to determine when I can start showing it to other people? So far I've drawn just one ( https://twitter.com/StellarHips/status/1346333575843639296 ), but as I said, it appears to look without much issues to me, but I do not know if this is truly the case.

To answer your rephrased question, whenever you want to. Many people less advanced than you post their NSFW stuff and do fairly well publicly. It looks to me that the only thing stopping you is your own comfort levels. So, take a deep breath and gopher it.

It's just that I have noticed that whenever there's an NSFW artist, their art looks great from the very first picture they post. I think I only saw one or two people who did start from the "badly drawn boobies" phase.
