Topic: How can i prevent users from mislabeling my artwork/uploads?

Posted under General

Not sure how or where to ask this, but i keep having people change the tags on my posts/uploads/artwork,
-not just misgendering characters which, at best, would have ambiguous gender since no gender-specific parts are showing, but also the scenario happening within the scene: what is shown in the artwork and there being some apparent misjudging based on what i'll assume is bias versus what is actually seen, or what is not seen

,i don't mind people correcting things with proper tags that may have initially been forgotten, but i'm not a fan of the misinterpretation and misgendering of my characters. at best it'd be ambiguous gender if their gender-specific parts aren't showing, and with the lore-tags now i tend to try and add male-lore to anything that isn't showing a male-only anatomy on my characters, but i think at times users have removed the male-lore too...

If you believe someone has added an invalid tag or removed a valid tag from a post you can either remove/add the tag yourself or report the post for tagging abuse and let an admin sort it out.

ah, thank you- i'll try to remember that if i notice there are repeated miss-tagging on my posts/artwork ^_^-!

Looking at just post #2142616, know that gender isn't tagged purely by gender-specific parts, but also things like body type, and there's definitely room for user error or misinterpretation. At first glance the ambiguous character looked to me like a female based on their hair and body, so I could see the image being tagged male/female as it was. It could additionally be tagged with male_(lore) if the character is male, but most of the tags you replaced looked correct (or at least close) by TWYS. (see twys and/or howto:tag_genders).

If you do think the character is ambiguous, which could be argued, then unless I'm mistaken the required tags would be male/ambiguous, male_penetrating_ambiguous and similar, not male/male.

You actually don't have to see the groin-to tell what genitals they have-or the chest-to tell whether or not there are breasts-to tag a gender. If a character has slender hips, a feminine-looking face, or anything else considered to be a feminine characteristic, with nothing to suggest the masculine-or little enough suggesting masculine that it's easy to interpret as a slightly boyish girl-then this site's tagging standards say that's good enough for the female tag. Likewise, broad shoulders, a masculine face, or any other manly features is good enough for the male tag, unless there's an equal amount of feminine features. The ambiguous_gender tag is only for if there are no features that a human being could visually interpret as either obviously feminine, or obviously masculine; or if there are just as many feminine features as masculine, or close enough to equal that the gender can't be considered obviously one or the other.

tl;dr: The non-lore gender tags are for labeling what a character looks like, not for making any assertions as to their actual canonical sex, or their gender identity.

While I still feel like the character in post #2142616 looks more feminine than not, I suppose I can also kinda' see sys-yok's point that they're arguably ambiguous. So I suppose I'll leave it there...Crossdressing tag doesn't apply, though, because it's meant solely for when a character you can definitely tag male is wearing feminine clothes, or one you can definitely tag female is wearing masculine garments. :P

right; everyone's eyes are different from personal experiences and the kind of environment they've grown up in, and what looks like an effeminate, or even just regular male to me, could probably look like a girl to someone else, and what looks like a "could be both" to me might look like a he/she to someone else,
fancy hairdo or what someone happens to wear doesn't tell me if it's a guy or a girl (or anything in-between or beyond),
i'll still probably stick with adding the male-lore tag to anything without a visible dick and no visible breasts, since i at times also draw curvy males- with wide hips, if not slender, flat or lanky, i don't always draw super-masculine bodies. -and i would say underage bodies tends to look like both or neither since they typically don't have developed curves/muscle?

and i, drawing the images and knowing the characters, might also be blind to what a more general public might see as being more of one or the other gender, so what i see might not be what others see, but i guess that's where moderators come into the picture and decides who sees the most right thing?
