Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: partial_nudity -> partially_clothed

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #51251 partial_nudity -> partially_clothed has been rejected.

Reason: A character that is partially nude is, by definition, not fully nude, and by extension, partially clothed. Even images tagged with partial_nudity but not partially_clothed tend to be either mostly_nude, topless, or bottomless. There's no reason to keep this tag whatsoever.

EDIT: The tag alias partial_nudity -> partially_clothed (forum #306771) has been rejected by @Millcore.

No reason to keep it, but hardly any of those are partially clothed. Most are bottomless or topless.

Alias it to clothed instead, since the characters wearing some clothes is the only thing in common for those.

I agree with Genjar, partially_clothed has a very specific definition of "wearing clothes that are pulled aside or partially removed" not just "exposed but with a nonzero amount of clothes".

Except very similar tags have consistently been aliased to partially_clothed.

The following tags are aliased to this tag: semi_naked, partial_clothing, open_clothes, clothed_partially, partially_naked, partially_undressed, partially_dressed, partially_nude

I've been doing a bit of manual cleanup with this particular tag, and there's always the option of reporting consistent misuse for people who continue to use the wrong tag even when they have the ability to read through partially_clothed's wiki.

Which is one reason why it's so messy. No need to add to the mess when it can be aliased elsewhere.

While the partial_nudity tag could be aliased to a disambiguation page or re-categorized as an Invalid category tag, I think aliasing partial_nudity to partially_clothed would be the best option. While disambiguating or re-categorizing partial_nudity are viable options, I feel those methods would be inefficient solutions that would require regular cleaning up.

There's the possibility of aliasing partial_nudity to a different tag, but I don't know of any other tag that would be a better fit than partially_clothed. While the partially_clothed tag itself has issues with being mistagged, it does have similar tag variations akin to partial_nudity aliased to it already (such as partially_naked and partially_nude) and it has an establish wiki entry that is more-or-less adhered to by folks on here. Additionally, the partial_nudity tag has no wiki, nor is there a clear way to utilize this tag that would be different from other established tags. Thus I think it would be best to alias away partial_nudity to partially_clothed, since it is a similar tag variation that has an unclear/indeterminate use.

Nonetheless, partial_nudity itself would still need to be manually cleaned up before it can be aliased away. I've also added some refinement to the wikis for partially_clothed and mostly_nude to hopefully discourage future mistagging.

I might just be a grumpy old coot, but doesn't "partial nudity" generally refer to non-sexualised exposure in the wonderful world of films and television? Might be where some of the confusion with that tag came from to begin with.

Clothed. That applies equally for topless, bottomless, and partially clothed.

Since partial_nudity is tagged inconsistently now, it'll continue to be tagged so after the alias. Which will mean unnecessary additional cleanup for partially_clothed, if it gets aliased there. That cannot be negated by the wiki, as most users do not read those.

Now that you've mentioned it, the clothed tag could work. Now I feel oblivious for not thinking of that option before and not noticing your earlier comment. It seems kinda obvious looking at it from that perspective.

Though if partial_nudity is aliased to clothed, what should be done about the current aliases to partially_clothed? If partial_nudity is aliased to clothed, I feel some of those tags currently aliased to partially_clothed (especially partially_naked and partially_nude) should instead be aliased to clothed as well.

Yeah, that could also be a contributing factor, along with folks conflating 'partial nudity' with 'not being fully clothed' in general.
