Topic: [Feature/Denied] Bring Back Uploader Viewing next to art, please? Maybe?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I'm sorry, I can't really say this is a "new" feature or anything. I'm well aware that you can see the uploader if you go to the Tag History section.
However, I miss the kinda old E621 where I was able to see who uploaded art as clear as day. I got a sense of joy or a bit of community feeling when I see other uploaders uploading content I like and giving certain artists well-deserved recognition. It's not the same when I can't see who uploaded art just by simply scrolling down and seeing the name.

Why can I only see the Approver? I would like to see the Uploader too, front row and center. Besides nobody really looks at the Edit History unless they really went out of their way to see who the uploader is, but usually, I see this as a means of looking at poor taggers and see who did the poor tagging quality. Am I the only one or few who misses seeing Uploader names next to the art?

I really miss that feature...not only that, but uploaders are constantly being mistaken for the Artist, like, what!? No, literally half the people on here are not the original artist, I've been mistaken for being the artist on numerous occasions where I would have to point out that, no, I'm not the artist, and then I kindly direct them to the artist's page so they may follow them and give them some love.

Please just let us (and me) just be able to see Uploaders next to the art like we used to.
Obviously, it's not a priority, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

EDIT: reminiscing, I always found it funny when you find those special uploaders. Like ones who ONLY uploaded rabbits or uploaders who made it a job to only upload funny pics that contribute to the "WHAT" tag. lol, good memories.

Which is part of the reason why it was removed. Some people would confuse the uploader as being artist, which understandably rubbed artists the wrong way as it felt like their work was being misappropriated, and uploaders would have a undue sense of control or ownership of a post with their name attached to it like that. Not having the uploader's name right on the post helps emphasize that the artist is responsible for the piece, not the uploader, and the uploader doesn't have a special claim to the post.

That's a good point. I still wish we could see uploaders though, maybe in some regard. I never saw any uploader who felt entitled cause he posted someone else's art, not to sound naive but I never really thought anyone is like that on here. Never ran into any uploaders who had that sense of ownership. Can't argue it's validity, I just miss the feature.

Can confirm. It's a real phenomenon.
Even without the uploader's name being visible on the page, I occasionally get an urge to go back and check the changes on the stuff I posted. Both to learn the tags that I missed... and to make sure nobody fucked anything up.

I remember a specific user who threw a fit because they believed only they had the right to upload art they commissioned from a specific artist. Someone uploaded a piece before they had a chance to, and so they responded by demanding the uploader take the art down so they could upload it themselves.

I think I can understand the mindset of that though, albeit it's not a pleasant way to take a post down. But I would think the individual is obviously attached to it cause not only did they spend money for the work but if the person uploads the art themself and tags it poorly, you're not really doing the art justice.
If the tags are amazing though then there s the issue that since the commissioner is not the one who uploaded the art themself they won't get notifications on who commented/complimented/insulted the post, so despite it being their art they get no feedback. And for one who relishes in that sort of attention for the art they commission, they'd want that community feedback to be direct to them, so that they may fully grasp and understand how others feel about the art they suggested to be created (but did not create themself)

That is what I believe goes on in that type of person's head.

I'm pretty good at tagging, I tag everything I deem necessary then I go over it and re-retag it until it's perfect. Then I never visit it again (kinda).

This happened with shacking regularity, even from some privileged users back when it was around D:

Gee I must have been living under a rock. But really throughout my years all I did was look at porn, admire it and then be on my way.
I've only became really active in my posting efforts near the end of 2020

I'm 99% sure this mentality still exists with a few too many uploaders even without the little "Approved" marker.

I was under the impression that this is supposed to reduce harassment of uploaders.
Yes, you can still look up the uploader and be mean to them, but I suspect most people don't know how to, or are too lazy.
