Topic: Downvoting

Why do people downvote comments that are perfectly valid, and that don’t cause any problems? It’s rather unfair, to say the least. I get that people have different views on something, but downvoting people’s comments that are perfectly harmless is just generally unfair.
I’m not speaking for myself, but on behalf of everyone who makes comments.

It doesn’t matter what I say, I still get downvoted. So I ask the voters;

What is it that I say that you don’t agree with?

You understand people have differing views, yet cannot grasp the idea that they may not view the comments in question as "harmless"?
What is unfair about people showing disapproval for the things you say? Are others not allowed to express their views as well?
Do you think going onto the forums and whining about being downvoted is going to benefit you in any way?

Let's go over a few of your comments that got downvoted in rough order they show up in your history;

Explaining a joke
Whining about Cub Art
Whining about Cub Art
Whining about Cub Art

Now, a quick look-over of your commenting history overall shows a lot of high-voted comments, although a vast majority of your comments are single-sentences, most often four or fewer words if not singular words, unaccompanied emojis, memes, allcaps, complaining, and just all around seems... well, to be honest, a bit juvenile overall in many cases.

That’s where the first problem lies. People do not express their views or objections.

I went to the forum so I could get a clearer understanding on the subject. Again, I accept that people have different perspectives on things.

Since it was something extremely vague, then there’s not really much to elaborate on. If someone had a problem with what is said, then the least that person can do is express their opinions.

P.S. the phrase ‘whining’ is a little abrupt. Mainly I just toss jokes in the comments (which may offend people) when it comes to some posts. I can understand why people would downvote me. Otherwise, reasons for disagreeing would be appreciated.

More importantly, why do you care? In the grand scheme of things, your comment scores on a porn site shouldn't really keep you up at night. It's not like you can cash in your upvotes at the end of the month for e621 Gold Points or something.

The two warnings you got for whining in the comments instead of using your blacklist didn't send enough of a message, then?

People downvote comments for a variety of reasons.
Not all of them have anything to do with the comments themselves.

So, if someone had profile pic that many people don't like, say post #378180 , then many people would downvote that person's comments, to punish them.

Some people will also mass-downvote someone's comments as punishment for an unrelated comment made somewhere else.

Downvoting is mostly about feeling powerful for a few seconds.

In my observation, voting systems such as this are fundamentally flawed and only lose merit as larger numbers of people participate in them. Users will down/upvote uploads based on any arbitrary number of reasons, usually only known to them. Because of this, ratings hardly reflect the quality of the post and I have noticed this has become even more true here in recent years as e621 has gained more popularity.
Imho, ratings on comments are a terrible idea in general and should not even be a thing, ever.

It would be nice if we could favorite comments, though.

My experience is, people dislike:
-Complaining about things you can avoid by using the blacklist - is obvious why its downvoted.
-Saying that they should please tag scat/gore/vomit/gender etc... - I guess because: someone tagged it -> the people who don't like it, don't see this post anymore -> the people who like it see it as an offense.
-Stupid jokes or ironical jokes which they take for real. - having a different kind of humor.
-Or just having another opinion.

A dislike is some kind of expression of an opinion. But like a... "shortcut"?

And it's ok to downvote stuff. I think you shouldn't bother so much abut some likes.

Yeah I’ve been having this happen to me too. Even when I do something as simple as pointing out a fact (not like a whoosh thing, I mean literally confirming something) I get downvoted. It’s been happening on every single one of my comments so I suspect it’s a dislike bomber. Maybe even my ex cuz he was a salty vagina scab.

You could contact an admin and ask them to check if your comments are being targeted.

People downvote to express their opinion. Sometimes they even downvote just for spite. Its the nature of the system, best way to counter it is to upvote a comment you think is unfairly downvoted IMHO.
