Topic: Help with adding character names

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I recently found the names given to a few characters that appeared in a few art pieces on the site already. However, trying to put the name of one of them doesn't mark them as a character. Is there a specific way to mark a tag as a character?

If you click Tags on the top bar, search the tag you want to change, click "edit" then you can set what category it should be.

Just make sure they're unique enough. Generally a first+last name is fine and unlikely to be used by multiple different characters, but a simple name like vel could realistically be used by multiple characters, so it's helpful to append the owner's name to make sure it's unique (e.g. vel_(ownername)).

On a post, hit the ? beside the tag to go to the tag's Wiki entry (which may or may not be filled out; it doesn't matter either way). On the second line of menu at the top of the screen, hit "Edit Tag". On the resulting screen, you can set the tag's category to a different one. Just choose "Character" from the drop-down menu you get when you click on the Category box.

Alright got it specified. Thank you

Would there be an issue if the owner's name is the same as their sona? It's the case with two art pieces with that character. Do I shorten the owner's name for fully write it out?

If the owner's name isn't short and can be shortened without being incomprehensible, shortening it is fine. The character and owner name being the same isn't a problem. A tag like vel_(vel) would be fine if need be.

If you have a character and an artist with the same name (such as when the former is a persona of the latter), you can differentiate them by suffixing them with _(character) and _(artist), respectively.

I'm pretty sure in that case you'd have the artist's name as the artist tag and the character as character_name_(owner_name), even if it's the same.

There's been a few discussions on the E6 Discord in the past saying _(character) shouldn't be used and _(artist) should only be for when an artist's name is already used as a general tag.

Apparently it started because on the old E6 you could add _(artist)/_(character) and it'd automatically swap the tag to that type, the feature was removed but people still tag using those.

My 2c, those could still be used if an artist has a unique enough name which is also used for their own character. Like nikku_lunatique_(character) for nikku_lunatique. Having nikku_lunatique_(nikku_lunatique) as a tag would be unsightly.
