I get the implication of “straight_shota” means there’s shota content, but it seems to me that the tag is aliased to shota, rather than implying it, resulting in “straight_shota” leading to all shota content, including yaoi.

Or, if you want to get even more accurate: shota male/female -male/male -male/intersex in your search bar. But straight_shota is likely aliased because we tend to avoid making combo tags, especially redundant ones.
Ignoring the possibility of, say, a group picture that includes a shota and an unrelated m/f pair (ambient_shota), straight_shota is functionally equivalent to shota m/f. While "shota-loli", "gay shota", "lesbian loli", and "straight loli" all exist in the vernacular of that particular subculture, there's no real shorthand for shota/herm or shota/intersex pairings, so I can promise you, if straight_shota wasn't aliased, there'd be constant bitching in forum threads/tickets/comments that somebody searching that tag accidentally saw a dick attached to a woman.
This is also part of a long history of removing tags like solo_female, which could either be a solo image with a female, or an image that has only one female.

But then why doesn’t straight_shota alias to shota m/f since those two are closer in meaning than shota alone is?

Because a tag can only be aliased to one other tag, not multiple tags at once. It has to be aliased to either shota or male/female, and in this case the former is considered better than the latter.
