Topic: [APPROVED] Claw BUR these tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #1104 is active.

create alias clawed_wings (4) -> wing_claws (3952)
create alias clawed_finger (6) -> finger_claws (68374)
create alias clawed_feet (3) -> toe_claws (162311)
create alias foot_claws (1) -> toe_claws (162311)

Reason: Different tags for the same thing. I'm not 100% sure on clawed_feet -> foot_claws (the latter isn't widely used, maybe toe_claws would be better?), so I'm open to suggestions for that.

EDIT: The bulk update request #1104 (forum #313449) has been approved by @slyroon.

Are wing_claws the same as wing_spikes / spiked_wings?

Maybe. I can definitely see where the two would be confused for each other, and I'm not sure what would separate wing_spikes from wing_claws. Neither wiki clarifies. I suppose I could see a spike being thicker and straighter, whereas a claw is smaller and with a slight hook to it. I'm not sure that's a worthy distinction for wings though, especially if people will constantly confuse the two.

I agree that there's not much of a difference between the two, if any. I'd be fine aliasing the two together, although what would be better as the 'main' tag? wing_spikes feels more appropriate since "spikes" can be a bit more encompassing than "claws", but no strong opinion.

I'd argue they're two different things. When I think of wing_spikes I think of this, where there's spikes anywhere on the wing, often times on the "arm" of the wing, or the membrane.

When I think of wing_claws, I think of this, where they're specifically at the end of the wing / "finger" digits.

The latter is more common than the former, as far as I can tell. Well, outside of Monster Hunter, where they seem to like to make everything spiky no matter what it is.

I genuinely didn't know that "wing claws" was a tag until now.

And I didn't think of "wing spikes" being a tag. I can now see how they'd be different, but if most people are going to be like us, only knowing/using one for both and causing them to get mixed up, or people tagging different things for ambiguous cases, it may not be worth keeping separate tags.

i'm biased since i upload a lot of chikn nuggit; but finger_claws should be reserved for characters whose fingers are literally just claws (like cofi_(chikn_nuggit) and fwench_fwy_(chikn_nuggit)) rather than any and all characters who have claws at the end of their fingers

edit: just found out i've been using claw_fingers and not finger_claws are different tags i've been using, so that's a different tag issue about two similar looking tags meaning entirely different things so my dislike of the bur still stands

Yeah I'd say from the looks of it both clawed_feet and foot_claws for the most part are used in place of toe_claws so aliasing like this makes more sense:

create alias clawed_feet -> toe_claws
create alias foot_claws -> toe_claws

Retracting my vote for a bit until this potential issue gets resolved, but I agree with @Dripen_Arn's concern.

I am not entirely sure where it was first brought up (maybe topic #26013?), but there is a difference between *_claws & clawed_*.
I believe the intent was for finger_claws to describe "fingers possessing claws" while clawed_fingers was for "fingers that are just claws" (distinct from long_claws, may overlap with clawed_hands).

Maybe a rename for the clawed_* tags to be less ambiguous?

EDIT: There is also the possibility of aliasing to claw_fingers, but there is a fair few of both finger_claws & claw_fingers in clawed_fingers to make for a direct alias.
