Topic: Feature Request - Warning Category

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.

The creation of a new tag category for the tags sound_warning and epilepsy_warning (perhaps motion_sickness_warning as well?), displayed above the Invalid category tags next to posts.

Why would it be useful?

The tags sound_warning and epilepsy_warning are currently in the Artist category because they have to be as visible as possible and Artist category tags are displayed above all other valid tags.

However, they could still be difficult to notice in collaborations of several artists. Now that aliases to invalid_tag are being replaced by placing tags in the Invalid category, Invalid category tags might occupy a larger space above Artist category tags, attracting more attention.

The Warning category tags need to be immediately perceived as soon as a post is clicked on. Sound Warning is used to avoid potential embarassment to users and/or damage to their hearing, while Epilepsy Warning is used to avoid triggering seizures, which are generally quite detrimental to health.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?

The tag display next to posts.

Updated

The warning category should use a CSS animation to make it flash between red and yellow. Slowly.

+1, I was recently thinking this would be useful.

+1 to this as well.

Given that the Invalid and Artist tags are red and yellow respectively, it may not immediately catch your eye to have it go between red and yellow. But also, something constantly changing may actually be too distracting when you're watching a video or something.

+1 seems a cool idea, make the category magenta, it's a pretty uncommon and distinct color that should easily catch everyone's attention.

+1. But agreed with Watsit, red and yellow tags are already present. The most obvious way around this is as Sieghelm suggests, a different color. I do also like the idea of alternating colors of letters to create the illusion of motion, like you see in those fairground signs. A warning should be attention-grabbing, but not distracting - not sure if this would be "too much".

Could we not simply change the background colour of the text? That would make it distinct from all the other tags and more eye-catching to boot.

+1. Similar to wat8548's suggestion, what if it was like... yellow text with red outline? Is that possible/a good idea? Idk, I'm not a web designer.

+1. Personally I think differently colored category header as long as it's displayed above all other tags is plenty enough to catch the eye of anyone wary of this kind of thing. I think alternating colors is overkill.

i was wondering if Avoid_posting and Conditional_dnp should be moved to that category once the feature is implemented. I always thought it was weird how they were both on the artist category, but at least, I know now.

Well, those kind of are artist-related.

I don't think we should dilute the salience of actual safety warnings with policy notices. Alarm fatigue is a real issue.
