Topic: Are the monotone and two tone tags getting out of control? Is it worisome?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Not gonna lie when I was more new with tagging posts, I've used some of the monotone tags, but the more I used it the more I asked why do we even have these? There's so many of them and they seem mostly useless...

Out of curiosity I tried to search for some monotone tags and holy moly what is this? Why so many? Is it even useful? Checked two tone and it's even more bizarre. two_tone_carpet, two_tone_banner, two_tone_neck (which is being used synonymously as countershade_neck), two_tone_hands (countershade_hands or fingerless_(markings)), I really think this is getting out of hand, what y'all think?

The monotone (now monochrome btw) tag should be used to describe the image as a whole instead of describing specifics.

As for two_tone* I personally think some of the tags are a little silly. I mean tagging two tone for body, fur, scales, etc is fine but bow ties and knee pads? Yeah, I think some cleaning up is needed (That is why the tag two_tone has been aliased to invalid_colour). Especially since most of those tag counts are 1 or a similarly low number.

I should mention that for the two_tone_carpet and two_tone_banner tags specifically, I have created them in response to the many colour-related object tags such as purple_pillow, red_bed, etc. I feel that for objects that are notably present in the scene, it may be beneficial to tag them (although it might contribute to tag bloat).

So that whenever somebody crops a furry image for a meme, you can at least still find the post by searching for identifiable objects in the scene.

And if you want my advice, I suggest tagging colours for the individual body parts as well (e.g., face, arms, hands, legs, feet, tail, wings, etc.). It may seem useless to you, but when you come across a cropped image you're begging to know the source of, you'd be glad that someone tagged that for you.

I have to say I didn't think on that, that it could be useful for cropped images, seems a valid reason to me, but... if possible I really would like to see more responses. That said I still think there are some problems here and there as I said with the usage of two_tone_neck and two_tone_hands, there's possibly more as I didn't search that far.

Also... It's a small observation, but the banner got mistagged as there is 3 colors there: dark blue/purple, silver(grey) and golden(yellow).

I was going with how it's viewed from afar, a purple banner with white markings. I doubt anybody would have spotted the small streaks of light yellow on the banner if they weren't specifically looking for it. Granted I could tag yellow_banner, but it would be misleading from afar. As for the choice between purple & blue, I went with the overall theme of purple (carpet/pillow/genitals) since colour constancy illusion is a thing; grey & yellow (as opposed to silver & gold) because basic colours are more likely to be tagged than the metallic ones (i.e., I don't tag silver & gold unless it's very obvious).

I'm really disliking the monotone tag. It seems like they should be made defunct. It's like tagging white_sclera white_teeth black_pupils etc. I feel like it should be thought of as default and two_tone/multicolored should be the distinctions. It's especially silly when I tried searching really bizarre things and found monotone tags attached to them. Monotone claws really shouldn't be a tag.
