For one, you often find pages of stories that don’t contain a frequently blacklisted tag, even though the story has focus on that subject. For example, many of the scenes in Family Tensions seem like cute fun, but you pretty quickly realize that what you were seeing was the result of longstanding sexual abuse.
There also seems to be an issue with tagging. People often mistag things as important as “forced.” On one hand, bondage is often tagged forced by habit, even though a large portion of bondage art is completely consensual. On the other (worse) hand, many posts depicting nonconsensual acts are not tagged as forced. For example, Danaume’s forced chastity drawings go untagged, primarily because people don’t know to tag them.
This might seem lame and stupid, but it’s important because it affects some people harshly. I’ve had no experience with rape, but these cartoon drawings keep me up at night. I know I should “just get over it.” I’ve tried. It hasn’t worked. For someone who has experienced sexual assault, stuff like this could be much worse. It’s important that if someone wants to feel safe from those kinds of thoughts, they should be able to feel safe. Rape is a traumatic topic for many.
I have a few ideas for fixes.
First, adding an ability to append some blacklisted tags to also include connected images. What I mean is, if a post is in the same set as one tagged “forced” or “young rating:e” there should be an ability to also blacklist that. This would ideally be customizable on a tag-by-tag basis, but if that is not a realistic addition, it could also be a setting affecting your entire blacklist.
Second, adding “lore” tags for things like “forced” and “abuse.” This would allow users to blacklist images which, according to the artist or description, contain these topics in a way that isn’t totally visible.
And I really don’t know how to fix the mistagging issue, but I have suggestions. For one, most tags including “forced” should be tooled to be used only to describe forced scenarios, with sections added to each of their wikis specifying they are used if and only if the action is unwilling.
Maybe you could implement a rule against repeated mistagging of blacklisted tags. This would require a high bar, not just a couple accidents.
Maybe (and this is the most radical idea) you could add an affirmative tag that confirms the absence of a few frequently blacklisted tags. These tags couldn’t be accidentally added the same way something like “forced” or “cub” could be accidentally omitted. If all else fails, someone can search by those terms to find things that won’t hurt them.
I hope you consider these proposals. It would mean a lot to me. Thank you.
