If the admins deem that there is sufficient evidence to ban someone for being underage, then I would assume that anything said on their social media would become invalid.
The reason behind taking down an underaged artist's artworks is because they cannot legally access e621 due to state laws.
If they are truly over 18, they can easily send definitive proof of their age (i.e., the user’s face as well as the government or state issued identification, or other applicable document) to [email protected].
In the meantime, the ban will be permanent until they have turned 18 or when they supply the needed documents for verification.

...But OP said they have turned 18. Are we just permanently assuming they're lying?

The admins need to hear it straight from the horse's mouth, not a third party, to make sure that nobody's pulling their leg.

According to the Age Restrictions section of the Code of Conduct, it says "If found to violate this rule, the account may be banned until the user’s 18th birthday."
Thus, I would assume it could mean either two things:

Thus, I would assume it could mean either two things:
- (1) The account will be banned from what the evidence has said about their age (prior to their banning) and up to them reaching their actual 18th birthday (i.e., if they have commented about being 17 a year ago and got banned for it, they can apply for an appeal now).
- (2) Until they have provided with corresponding proof that they are currently 18 (i.e., commented on being underaged but did not specify age, got banned for it indefinitely until they could show their actual proof of age).
He does not have a (known) account on e6, but on his Twitter pages (https://twitter.com/o_reowoof, https://twitter.com/reolixious) it states he is 18. He has many birthday posts as well, as he recently turned 18. It wouldn’t make sense for him to be lying about his age, cause how would so many people be in on it? Granted, most of his art was posted here when he was 17, but that shouldn’t be reason for a mass takedown now that he’s 18. Reolixious is even his AD account, i don’t think a minor would be able to fake that.
Gotta have the artist directly contact e621 staff.

As I said, there was evidence to believe otherwise, else the admins would have not mass takedown all of their artworks.
The issue isn't whether he had posted artworks when he was 17, the issue is that it is believed that he is still currently underaged.
I also don't think it's safe to assume that if someone had posted NSFW content, that it could never be done/faked by a minor.
Bottom line is if he has claimed to be currently underaged, he would get barred from the site (i.e., artworks removed). If he has reached the age of 18, he can request for an appeal from the management himself, and not by a third party or source (e.g., tweet saying that he is now 18).
All underage bans should be set to expire in 17.99 years from the ban date.
