Topic: Drawing Kemono eyes?

Posted under Art Talk

Been strugling with this for years , if asked before please don't whack me im new to esix.
How can i draw kemono eyes?
(google is not my friend , tried it).

Also asked an actual Kemono artist but then the language barrier kicked in and the reply didn't help either.

Kemono style has a certain cute charm that i can't put into words but what it comes down to are the eyes.
Also these are not exactly anime style eyes either.

Example:

Or the way Cynxie draws eyes , because these are not 2 circles.
With respect and humility any furries, artists could give me advice or where to look?

I think what you're picking up on is the ring around the iris. Try drawing standard anime eyes with an additional ring around the inside of the iris. Kemono art tends to also have much thicker linework on the eye outline itself than standard anime eyes.

IMO, The differences between Kemono and Furry are Not Limited in their eyes.
Short snout, Small nose, Less solid/3D style, etc.... → [Furry vs Kemono]
So the example you gave, and Cynxie's drawing-style , are rather close to Kemono than Furry, I think.

Kemono eyes refer to the drawing-style like Jpn anime and manga so they are Not realistic.
Here're What I can say:

The eyes size themselves are large.
The height to width ratio is smaller than the real ones;If the real eyes are 1:3, Kemono ones are 1:2 or 1:1
Irises and Pupils may become larger, and White-Sclera may be reduced.
Moderately larged eyes would make you feel cute, fantastical, and attractive.

The unique format that ignores the anatomy of real eyes, which emphasizes or simplifies features.
Unnecessary lines are omitted, and simple desines/shapes are sometimes used.
We Japanese call it デフォルメ, but when it is extreme and becomes like Osamu-Tezuka's, we call it 記号化.

In the current trend,
The upper linework may be thickened and the lower may be thinner. Yes, This is exactly what @VotP said.
Irises are often bright/glowing, as if they were lighted from the lower side. Also, glistening_eyes
With these, You would see the characters as cute, healthy and lively.
(( This is probably because we Japanese are somewhat lookism and look at eyes first. I indeed can't deny I also see the beauty of eyes before the expression on face. ))

In this case, Pixiv should be your friend. Try searching for 描き方 目 or 講座 目
Also Pixiv/Howto is available. Try just with 目 I hope you find a good one.

Updated

An artist you could try asking is O-kemono. He's spent years trying to nail down the kemono style, yet he's (now) Canadian, so a language barrier shouldn't be a problem.
