I'd go with the real life horse's name, the Uma Musume characters are meant to be parallels of the horses and their racing careers, and in that context racehorses have their names officially registered, with pretty strict guidelines

It seems like many of those character names should have the _(pretty_derby) suffix removed, since they're fairly unique names. Only the more ambiguous ones (like vodka (pretty derby)) need to keep it.

I'm not that keen on removing (pretty_derby)...
I think it's fine as is, it feels more consistent and might avoid future headaches, but I do know the official char naming guidelines state that the franchise/owner should only be added for disambiguation
