Topic: Character tag for unnamed OC that has an alternative one

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Hello! So basically, I found some art I'd like to upload here, and since most of them portray an OC that the artists uses a lot, I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to create a character tag for it. The problem is that I have no idea how. The artist has his own OC he uses, but this one appears to be his secondary default OC for drawing, it has no name nor a consistent gender.

Normally I'd leave it without one, but as mentioned previously, the artist uses this OC in lots of his artworks, so kind of feeling like it should have one. Asking because I'm new here and to the tagging on e621, so please be patient with me haha. The best I could think of was either wolf_oc_(artist) or female_wolf_(artist) / male_wolf_(artist), but not sure if it sounds right.

If the oc has an unambiguous full name, use that, without any qualifiers. Ex. judy_hopps rather than judy_(zootopia).
If the oc has a common first name/nickname and no known last name, use that qualified with the artist's name. Ex. isabelle_(animal_crossing).
If the oc has no known name, there's no clear rules. I'd say name it with a distinguishing physical feature, to avoid conflict in case the artist comes up with another unnamed wolf oc. Don't tag the sex of the character; some artists draw crossgender works with the same character. If the wolf has green_fur, name it green_wolf_(artist).
If there's nothing easy to describe about the character, then I'd recommend unnamed_wolf_(artist).

The first time a tag is used, you can set the category by writing it as character:name_of_character. After it is created, while it has less than a hundred posts, you can set the category by going to the tag search engine and finding it and clicking the "edit" button. When it has more than a hundred posts, you can set the category by creating a BUR (Bulk Update Request) by one of the links at the top of the forum home.

If it looks like the artists own sona (i.e., literally being used as their avatar, representation of themselves in artworks, etc.), then you can use artist_name_(character).
If it's a separate character than that of their sona, then you can use unnamed_(artist) or unnamed_wolf_(artist).

If you want to take the extra step, you can send a message to the artist asking about their character's name.
