The only time you can tell any form of difference is when an artist gives one an intentionally different appearance, such as the orange fur that never occurred in any game.

Unless you want to count the hook itself, which an artist can leave out of the World version, or add to the SL version, making it completely unreliable as a "character difference" trait.
