Topic: Defining 'shackles' as a sub-type of 'cuff (restraint)' accross the wiki

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Hello, everyone.
I'm suggesting some changes.

The current descriptions of tail cuff, ankle cuffs and wrist cuffs define them as a type of shackles, which in turn are defined to exclude leather cuffs. This doesn't seem right.
Shackles reads 'Shackles are a specific, heavy type of cuff (restraint).'
Wrist_cuffs reads 'A type of shackle meant to be worn around the wrist.'
Either cuffs are a sub-type of shackles or the other way around.
Therefore, we should remove the reference to shackles in tail_cuff/ankle_cuffs/wrist_cuffs. Then they are just leaning on the cuff (restraint) definition. That should be better.

Secondly: the bondage gear page.
It also lists tail_cuff/ankle_cuffs/wrist_cuffs as sub-types of shackles.
Assuming shackles are a type of cuff (restraint) (as the shackles page says and that seems good to me), we should add cuff (restraint) in places of shackles and move shackles into the same tier as tail_cuff/ankle_cuffs/wrist_cuffs.

I'll begin making these changes now as a subject to being rolled back if my understanding of these definitions, which is based on the cuff (restraint) and shackles pages, isn't agreed upon.

Have a nice day!

I haven't gotten around to cleaning up all the wiki entries yet. In general though:

cuff_(restraint) is the top level
handcuffs are a type of cuff and specifically refer to police handcuffs; it no longer implies shackles.
shackles are specifically wide, solid band cuffs (usually metal_cuffs). ankle_cuffs no longer implies it. This is a narrow definition. leather_cuffs are not shackles. When tagging, I usually look for bulky metal bands and preferably with chains attached, but if they're huge and look hard to remove that's close enough for me as well. It's about the thiccness. ;)

We had a bit of talk about using bondage_cuff to occupy the same "level" as handcuffs (to describe their utility, as opposed to material) but I don't remember what happened there.

All of this is being cleaned up still, although i've been kept busy by day job and haven't had time to work on it more recently.

Feel free to poke me on the e6 discord if you want to chat, it'd be nice to keep coordinated.

I'm very tired atm so this all may be a bit off, I'll look more tomorrow.

You should refer to topic #31701 since it addresses the same issue, and make sure that there is coordination with the tag cleanup.

Oh, sorry, didn't see that.

I agree with all of that. That's what I thought as well.

Bondage cuffs was aliased to cuff_(restraint), which is a good choice in my opinion.
Therefore, aliasing bondage cuff to cuff_(restraint) as well seems like a no-brainer.

I think the issues with these tags have largely been figured out.
I will go to the older thread and report the changes I've made there.
Thanks for your replies.
