Topic: Policies on Back and Forth tag changing?

Posted under General

I've been wondering about what the threshold is for punishing someone(s) for changing tags back and forth between one or more people on posts (if there even is such a thing), such as an image that is, for example, obviously not containing an underaged character. Either by where they post the image (such as FA), where canonically the character is underaged but is clearly aged up to the point where you can/cannot tell if they are of age, and a bunch of other things such as small characters in general.

I've made a comment about this in the past, as "tag what you see" still exists for some reason , where I went on a bit of a rant of how if one was to go completely on 'tag what you see', it'd be completely reliant on the users perception of what the image is showing. So I could potentially go to any image with "big_dom_small_sub" and just put an underaged tags on all of them because it has a small character.

I'm not looking to start a dumpster fire here. I'm just genuinely curious about this because I don't want to get banned for repeatedly changing tags because the other person doesn't have basic common sense. Right now, if I change a tag and someone changes it after me, I just favorite the pic directly or go to their FA and do it there, but I think that's kind of dumb to have to do so often.

If somebody adds a tag, and then you remove it, then they go out of their way to re-add it, that's the point where you should report the image itself to ask for an official ruling.

If I change a tag and someone changes it back, I usually report it right away. I used to write a comment about what is wrong with the changed tag, but I stopped that after it escalated a couple of times... mostly on gender related tags.

The only time I've seen people get punished for tag wars is when they're doing so maliciously.

Good to know. Wouldn't want to start reporting people for tag changing and get into trouble because it happens often.
I did notice that in the report page it says to not abuse the system, so I'm wondering if that is in regards to just reporting a lot of stuff for no reason, or if I shouldn't report things that I come across on a semi-regular basis and only for serious things or back and forth issues as mentioned above. I don't want to be considered "abusing the system" if I report 5 images in a single day (with good intentions).

Would this be the appropriate course of action for the user who initially added the tag as well? Like if someone removed a tag I added to a post and I still felt like that tag was appropriate, should I report the image instead of re-add the tag?

If you do believe a tag is appropriate for the post, you can re-add the tag and include your justification for it into the "Edit Reason" field before submitting your tag change.
This is to help communicate between the two conflicting beliefs among the two parties, in hopes that you can convince the other party with your reasoning.
If they decline your reasoning and proceed to remove your tag once again, read their reasoning behind it and evaluate whether or not the tag is still needed.
If there is no response/reasoning from the user or if you feel that it is still unjustified, then you can seek an admin's official ruling by reporting the post and not the user.

Looking at this again, I should have added:
If I am convinced it was wrong to be removed/added and, if I am sure that it will be removed/added sooner or later again.

I do this usually on gender related tags, solo_focus + solo (if the second character is barely visible), and stuff like that. And on posts that feature cubs and cub like characters. Like the origin of this forum thread:
