Topic: Innanimate object species tagging question

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I got a question about tagging species implications on objects such as plush toys, stickers and etc, specifically when they're not animate_inanimate

For example, teddy_bear often seems to be tagged with ursid while animal crossing's froggy_chair seldom gets a frog tag
We also have examples like post #2444782, which has a lucario character, and the background has a snorlax plush and an eevee cake, and it's tagged with lucario, snorlax and eevee

So I assume that any recognizable depiction of of a species should get tagged with that species then? Is there a clear cutoff point for it?
For example a character wearing an animal pin/sticker feels like they shouldn't make the picture be tagged as that animal's species, but maybe that's what the tagging guidelines assume should be the correct course of action?

Just looking to clear it up since I couldn't find any solid evidence either way

Normally we do tag species even if they are not the main character in the post, such as images of them in the background, posters, stickers, toys, etc.
If it's recognisable as a species regardless of whether they are a character or not, then you should tag the species as per TagWhatYouSee (TWYS).
If it's part of the ambient background (such as tiny bird silhouettes off in the distance), then you might want to consider tagging ambient_*.
