Topic: A Curvaceous Mess (Rewritten)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #2232 is active.

remove implication curvaceous (5) -> voluptuous (79928)
remove alias curvy (0) -> curvaceous (5)

Reason:

The implication makes no sense at all and the curvaceous tag itself is pointless; once the implication is removed, curvaceous should be aliased to curvy figure.

Why remove the implication?

Based on its wiki definition, curvaceous was a redundant, less descriptive tag for hourglass figure...

Describes a character with a clear-cut, often exaggerated, hourglass figure; a character with big_breasts (and larger), and wide_hips, yet a small_waist.

The examples of curvaceous were identical to any character tagged as hourglass_figure, compare post #1596989 and post #1476808 - is there anything really distinct between these two body types besides breast size? Could you tell which is intended to be "curvaceous"?

As for the implication, Voluptuous, as a tag, has been interpreted by users to generally mean female/gynomorph characters with wide hips, thick thighs, big breasts, and an overall curvy figure, often with a wide or thick waist, often chubby or overweight - think "thicc" "plus sized" etc.

There's no reason why curvaceous should have implied voluptuous, and the implication has only served to muddy up the voluptuous tag.

Why get rid of curvaceous entirely?
  • Tag Name: "curvaceous" doesn't carry a specific description, or have a connotation that would lead to users tagging a a specific body type (as hourglass figure, pear-shaped figure and voluptuous do)
    • "curvaceous" is just a synoynm for "curvy"
  • Tag Intent: Entirely redundant, as mentioned above, just describes what is better tagged as an hourglass figure
    • The intent for curvaceous could only be understood by looking at the wiki page
  • Usage: Users didn't know what to do with it, post under the tag were all over the place in body types, it was essentially used as tag stuffing
All of these images are (or were) tagged "curvaceous"

The curvaceous tag has now been completely purged, posts under it were retagged as other more descriptive tags as needed, so dealing with this issue now is pretty easy and straight forward.

EDIT: The bulk update request #2232 (forum #330428) has been approved by @slyroon.

Bumping in case anyone has suggestions/disagreements

TL;DR: curvaceous was never supposed to be synonymous with voluptuous, going by the tag's (old) description; the implication was a mistake, and is causing irrelevant posts under voluptuous.

The curvy tag is better aliased to curvy figure, curvaceous was intended to a specific body type, curvy figure is very open to interpretation, and acts as an umbrella tag.

Updated

Bumping once again, with my plan to see if anyone agrees or disagrees I don't want to look like I'm tag vandalizing

The plan:

1. De-implicate curvaceous from voluptuous, this prevents new, mostly irrelevant posts from being added to voluptuous
2. De-alias curvy from curvaceous, this means fewer new posts are added to the curvaceous tag
3. Alias curvy to curvy_figure, which makes logical sense, given the openness of the definition of "curvy figure"

4. sort through posts tagged curvaceous, removing curvaceous from the posts, removing/keeping the voluptuous tag (depending on whether the post fits the tag), or adding tags like hourglass figure or pear-shaped figure where appropriate
5. alias curvaceous to curvy_figure, to remove it entirely

This plan is good imo.

The curvaceous tag is now completely empty, barring anyone using it after this post has been written. All of the posts have been sorted into voluptuous, hourglass figure, pear-shaped figure, curvy figure, or had all figure tags removed if the character's body wasn't really visible.

Here are all of the actions that should be taken, listed out since they can't be done all together as a BUR

remove implication curvaceous -> voluptuous
remove alias curvy -> curvaceous
alias curvaceous -> curvy_figure
alias curvy -> curvy_figure

With Slyroon doing so many approvals recently (awesome!), bumping this for visibility.
