Topic: (question) Tag Auto-Filtering on Upload/Edit

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

There has to be a way for the dev(s) to code the tagging system to automatically reject certain tags if other certain tags/a combination of tags are used.
So example, if You have a Solo tag, it should automatically reject any tags that imply multiple characters. F/f, m/m, m/f, duo, threeway, ect.
Or maybe (probably better seeing as I just realized the first idea would hit a roadblock the second you uploaded the image with both sets of tags in conflict) when you hit submit/upload it sends you a little warning message of conflicting tags that you have to click either “Go Back” or “I’m Sure” or something

I’m just wondering this cuz I used to be on the ball for tagging certain area’s of the posts, but then my health deteriorated. I did it Not cuz I liked the content but cuz it was so widely misused/mistaken, because others didn’t like tagging it due to surrounding drama that used to happen, ect. Now however by the time I’m done tagging a page I feel like I have 6 more stacked on top because NO ONE is tagging the tags I try to clean up properly anymore. I also do it cuz I know what it’s like to go looking for something specific an I can’t find it cuz no one’s tagging anything right anymore and I -tagged something in my search that wasn’t supposed to be part of the posts. But it’s difficult to keep up. Constantly having new folks coming in tagging willynilly and not understanding the way it’s done here doesn’t help so long term “by-hand” taggers drown in a flood of mistags lol.
I mean either way I’ll keep plucking at the tags when I feel like it but these days I rarely bother cuz of that drowning in errors feeling.

Just to be clear I’m NOT recommending a catch all clear all type system. Just something to help cut the mistakes of new comers using depreciated (implied) tags that get turned into something that doesn’t actually belong on the posts. Mostly this is coming up cuz of the eternal struggle with gender tags. we used to have gay and lesbian an…well you get the idea. Well now the newcomers use it and it gets turned into Male/Male or it’s equivalent and they don’t even notice. So if you happen to search M/M + Solo you get pages of SOME posts of actually two or more guys but a LOT of single guys posing sexy an such. Same for the other gender related slash tags. It’s a conflict of tags. (The solo tag on characters with disembodied partners is a grind for me but I gave up on trying to change that a loooong time ago)

Edit 1: fixed a title typo
Edit 2: more information, lil tired, going to be sleeping soon so I’ll check in the morning.

It is quite difficult to tell which specific tag is wrong.
In your example, it might be that solo is inapplicable – or maybe it's m/f / f/f, etc.
Also, there are situations where both of these kinds of tags are correct, like with multiple_images.

A good chunk of mistags of this kind actually happen because of aliases like gay -> m/m.
Some people use gay to indicate that the character is gay, not because it's a m/m scene. That sort of thing.
Perhaps, those aliases should be looked over once again.

I think what they mean is just a general warning, not a specific one like for example:
a post has the tags
solo, [what ever blah blah blah], group
when you hit upload, a pop-up would show saying something like
hey, you sure you meant to tag (thing)
(thing) being a list of incompatible tags, and not just specific ones, in this example it would be solo, group

You could code warnings that only appear if tags like multiple_scenes and multiple_images are not tagged. Which could have the benefit of getting users to tag those more.

Make it optional to comply with the warning.

Yeah that’s what I meant by the warning. Basically it’ll give you two options, one button goes ahead and submits the change the other closes the warning/brings you back to the edit page so you can fix it.
