Topic: Gallery-DL is appeartly now getting blocked from trying to download

Posted under e621 Tools and Applications

I have used Gallery-Dl for a while on this site until today. Unfornately for some reason is seem to stop working. It could be because the site update or maybe an anti-bot has been added or something.

Been getting this error like this:

[e621][error] HttpError: '403 Forbidden' for 'https://e621.net/posts.json'

I been trying to grab a user-agent from this site or try customizing it to make it work again but is there any way how to do it right?

Use a different tool. Gallery-DL is broken and makes one request for every post on top of the index requests. This both makes it super slow, but also goes against the APIs rule of "don't request individual post pages if you're making lots of fetches"

Trying to continue to use Gallery-DL will get you blocked again.

Try using Grabber instead. https://bionus.github.io/imgbrd-grabber/

Oh jeez, so it's like an unintentional DDOS! Surprised it was allowed as long as it was.
Are there any CLI tools that do it the appropriate way?

The latest version of gallery-dl is fine, some people were still using really old versions with the broken behaviour Kira is referring to. The block the op talks about was because of broken rate limiting which is also fixed. Again, just use the latest version and you're good.

Oh good, thanks!

Also I found grabber has a cli mode, so that's 2 options for command line users. https://bionus.github.io/imgbrd-grabber/docs/cli.html
