Topic: Untextured Models

Posted under Art Talk

So. Lets say Im making images using high detailed models Ive made from scratch. The models dont have any textures. In fact thats intentional. Theyre designed to be printed and painted IRL but I still have a lot of specific poses and images I have to go along with showing off the work Ive done.

Now. My question becomes.

Is it worth posting the renders Im proud of? Do I just fuck around and find out with uploading?

Are there specific rules against blank white models? My brain likens it to an uncolored lineart upload personally.

So Id like to know if theres specific ruling on this.

As far as I'm aware there aren't any rules specifically against this, but my first thought would be that it'd get rejected on artistic quality grounds. Someone could draw something with a great pose, but if it was made with scribbled lines of crayon, it might not last long here.

Your argument is valid under most circumstances, but I don't think that it would apply here. For one, Demesej'a's work has relatively strong use of contrast and shading, so the forms work well here. Same reason that nobody really repaints those Michelangelo and other Renaissance sculptures that have lost their original luster.

Plus, even if a textured version comes through in the future, I imagine that somebody me being one of them would appreciate the textureless version. A much wackier comparison: the textureless models that are shown during the Alpha and Omega credits sequence, by a relatively large studio no less.

Edit: I could very well be wrong, though, especially according to staff; I am definitely a little biased towards this sort of thing for reasons that I won't delve in to...

There are no specific rules against having no textures on models, but I'd personally delete those because they look unfinished and unpolished, mostly because of the lighting and not the lack of textures, though.

Are those preview renders or fully rendered out? There's a bunch of weird light spots in one and the aliasing is inconsistent in a few places, too. Which is mostly what makes me lean towards deletion.

Theyre unfinished previews yeah! I havent gotten the lighting down the way I want it quite yet but Im glad to hear its more an issue of unfinishedness rather than a strict rule. Thanks!
